  • Hi John

Probably best if you can get your hands on one of the anti-static record cleaning cloths that were around when vinyl was still popular. You could try searching on eBay or try and get to a local record fair where I have also seen them for sale. I would be very interested to find out how you are transferring the vinyl to CD as I have a large collection that I plan to convert at some time.

    Hope this helps

I have found transfering very easy.
If you have a tuntable with an amp and it has a earphone socket. thats the start.

I transfer to my laptop I have a line in socket next to the earphone socket. I then use sterio adapters to bring it down to the 1/8 jack mail to plug into the line in. I then use a free programe call audiocity That I just run while the record is palying this records into digital format.

Then transfer that recording as a wave file ( all within the audiocity programme)it usely gets put onto my desktop as a wave file. There is a command then to add it to my burn list putting it into mediaplayer. just put a disk in and burn.

  • i used to clean records at a record shop using some neat alcohol mixed with water... maybe 1/2 and 1/2

i can't remember the name but you had to get it from a chemist
    it was fairly cheap
we had a special cleaning machine but if it broke we just put some of that on and then wiped it off with a clean cloth, actually bits of old t-shirt... anything not hairy

make sure none of it gets on the lables though as they'll come off
having it on a turntable would help, and wiping the mixture around with a soft brush to get out the dirt

    hope that helps

if you're desperate to know what the alcohol was i'll try to contact the owner of the shop and ask

    Make sure it is wax-free.
