Help please!
I've bought borax and bicarb this week and see that people say both are good to use in laundry alongside powder. BUT - I usually use soda crystals - so do I put all in or just one - and if so which one's best for what? Also do I use vinegar alongside (I don't want to blow machine up)?

Bicarb can be mixed with vinegar for the final rinse, but watch out as it acts like shaken up pop! I found it was too much of a pfaff, so I just use vinegar.
Borax can be mixed with 'gloop' you can find threads on here extolling the virtues of gloop, but I didn't find that it made that much difference myself and put the cost of the gloop up considerably.
There was a thread a while back where someone suggested putting a couple of tablespoons of borax in the slow cooker with dull whites to bring them back up to scratch. I can't really comment on this.0 -
i make my own washing powder and use this most of the time...
1 mug of borax
1 mug of soda crystals
1 mug of any old cheapie grated soap
it takes about 5 minutes to grate the bar of soap and measure out 3 mugs into a plastic container and i use between 1 and 2 tablespoons of the mix each wash, it`s dirt cheap and it seems to last for ages!
for normal day to day wear i use the above mix and it all comes out lovely and clean and remarkably soft due to the soda crystals so i never use conditioner either :j
my lad plays rugby and i only use "normal" washing powder when he has quite literally been rolling around the field on his back and his kit is black with dirt  boys!! for everything else i use the above mix.:jproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0
