Lightly cooked eggs......

I know this is a silly question but what exactly does 'lightly cooked eggs' mean? In the hope of starting a family :) I need to be careful about what I eat but I love eggs - and we have chickens which doesn't help! :D

I'm guessing boiled eggs and soldiers are out. But what about poached eggs or scrambled? Does it just mean the yolk has to be solid?

The only info I can find is to avoid 'lightly cooked'.

Basically you can't eat eggs with runny yolks when pregnant because of the risk of salmonella so you need to hard boil eggs so the yolk it totally solid. Poached and scrambled eggs are fine as the yolk is mixed in and gets cooked through.

    No they don't??!!

A poached egg is just like a boiled egg except that it isn't in a shell!

Eggs which have the lion stamp on them (basically any supermarket eggs) are from flocks which have been vaccinated against salmonella. I take that to mean they are safe to eat raw or lightly cooked.

So I can still have scrambled? Yippee! And what about Omelettes? I always cook them so they're solid all the way through - not slightly soft like they're meant to be so would they be OK?

I thought that, but I guess I've never looked on a poached egg as lightly cooked. I guess that goes for fried eggs too? :(

Oh blimey, what with this and going tee-total it could all get complicated! :rotfl: I haven't even thought about what the soft cheese and stuff means yet!

Well so long as your eggs are solid all the way through you should be ok :)
Rather a little overcooked than undercooked especially if trying for a family :)
