FAO: Alliance & Leicester 10% ISA Holders
Hi, today I called A&L to ask if the interest I was credited on the 1st of Jan 2009 was from the opening of the account til Jan or til April and after her poor explanation of that the woman went on to tell me that the rate dropped from 10% to 7.3% on the 2nd of December 2008. Just a heads up to let people know. Has anyone…

Isa help please
Can someone offer a bit of advice please? My husband and myself took out a Nationwide isa last year at 6.14% it has now matured and has been put into another Natiowide isa at 0.25%. We visited Nationwide to talk about moving last years isa and opening this years isa at a fixed 3.0% (we are both over 50 so could put in the…

The golden rule...?
Just been reading the ISA guide on here and it says the golden rule is to never ever ever withdraw cash from a cash isa otherwise you lose the tax benefits. I understand if you take the money out and plonked it into a normal account the cash would get taxed but if i just wanted it out to spend ie after hitting a target…

Tax on shares?
Hi, can someone please explain the Inland Revenue's stance on the profits made from shares? E.g. I trade some shares and turn £500 profit. Is this profit added to my annual income and I am then taxed on this at my income tax band rate? Or are the profits counted as capital gains and then taxed at that rate? I realise this…

Switch Cash ISA

First Direct cash e-ISA transfer problems...
Many weeks after requesting a transfer of two previous years ISA subscriptions to the FD cash e-ISA, I've received a message which tells me my account will be available on my screen within 48 hours and wants me to agree to the declaration that: I have not subscribed and will not subscribe to another cash ISA in the same…

Stocks & Shares ISA Advice
I want to invest some money into shares. I want to buy a small amount of a couple shares (around £1500 in total). And also, I want to invest in an index tracker fund (around £2000). Would it be worth me putting these into a S&S ISA? Or just hold them outright. I'm guessing the straightforward answer would be to put them…

New Star Heart of Africa

Incorrect ISA interest.
I have a 2 year fixed rate ISA with Nationwide at 6.15% which I started in Jan 2008. It was showing a balance on 31/3/2008 and shows the interest added on 31/3/2009. If I calculate the interest on that balance at 6.15% it comes to a few pounds more than has been credited to my account. e.g. If balance on 31/3/2008 was,…

Principality Regular Saver ISA
Hi All Received this yesterday: Dear Sir, I can confirm that the Regular Saver ISA has now been withdrawn from sale. As you already have one you must obviously continue to pay in each month, but with regards to the extra allowance for the over 50’s in October we cannot yet comment. This is because we are still waiting for…

Swapping ISAs from cash -> equity. I'm scared.
A BOS advisor has recommended that, for my long term (>10yrs) savings plan, I should transfer all (3) of my cash ISAs to a single equity ISA. I know he has a financial incentive to recommend this but I'm not a great lover of shares et al. I suppose the safest option is buying into an index tracker. I need some advice/info…
