High KW Air Source Heat Pump options
Hi, I've a largeish renovated property (320sqm) which is well insulated, has wet underfloor heating down stairs and radiators upstairs. It has an Oil boilder at present. I've had ASHP suppliers around who look nervous suggesting stardard ASHP at around the 12kw to 16kw or suggesting hybrid systems that keep the oil boiler…

New ASHP and HIVE app.
We have our new ASHP in, being commissioned tomorrow. The Heating Engineer handed me a HIVE HUB today, if I want to use it. I’m very keen as I love technology and previously had a NEST with our oil central heating. So, I’m trying to register an account with HIVE ready for when it’s all working. But I have fallen at the…

Grunfos central heating pump
Pump stuck after being left off. Stripped it down then cleaned and eased the seized impeller so thought all was a goer. However, on switching on - nothing. What can cause this? Any suggestions? Does it have a capacitor or internal fuse. I checked windings for continuity and all seemed ok. Baffling.

Buying oil heated house - check suitability for heat pump
Hi, we've had an offer accepted on a property that has an oil heating system. Our offer considered the cost of installing a heat pump should the oil system need replacing after 2025 (it has been recently refurbed). In discussion with a friend it was mentioned that not all houses are suitable and there could be some cost…

Heating not coming on with air source heat pump
Hi all, looking for some advice. We have just had a Grant Heat Pump installed. The only issue we have is the heating is not coming on as scheduled. The water cycle takes precedence, of course, but even when there is not hot water demand the heating will not kick in. The only way we can get the heating on is to either turn…

Solar Panels and Heat Pump fitted but savings not as suggested.
We recently received a grant under the eco4 scheme to have solar panels and a heat pump fitted. At the initial assessment we were told that the 12 solar panels would pretty much provide us with free electricity during daylight hours, during the summer months when we don't have the heating on. During the winter it should…

Grant for heat pump to replace home with storage heaters
Is there a grant available to fit an air source heat pump in a home that has no gas supply and is heated by storage heaters only. The house is a large bungalow and was built in the 1990's. All I see re government grants is boiler replacement, but I don't have a boiler and am not on any benefits. Like the idea of fitting a…

Electric only tariff for heat pumps
Hi we went and got a heat pump, for many reasons, then the prices jumped and we have a huge electric bill now. given that the government wanted us to install these, does anyone know what the best tariff is for supplying electric only, and if there’s an support for heat pump owners? the pump is great but our bills jumped…

Thermal store for heat pump?
So I guess this means some kind of hot water tank? If say you've got an EV, you can charge that car between 12am and 5am for 7.5p/kWh In that same time, there's nothing stopping you from also charging up your home batteries + your hot water tank which means you only really need a COP of like 2 or so to be cheaper than gas…

Heat pump dryer - condensation problem
So finally managed to buy out first-ever dryer and we went for a Heat Pump dryer as they are more economical. Drying the clothes is ok. However, the dryer seems to fill the laundry room with moist air and we are getting condensation everywhere in the room. The whole system is supposed to be sealed so that the water ends up…

keeping old boiler with new heat pump
I currently use an oil combi boiler central heating but I am considering to switching to an air heatpump. However, being aware of the potential downsides I am wondering, if there is the option to keep my old boiler so that I can either be able to switch between the two, or at least have the option to go back to using my…

Cost of heat pump installation
I have been quoted £7000 to have a heat pump installed. This is in addition to the £5000 government grant the company says they will apply for. Is this normal ?

Air Source Heat Pump - Planning permission required!
Hi, I am not sure this is the right place for this but I looked and can't find anywhere more suitable. Some of you will remember I have been waiting for my quote from Octopus Energy for an ASHP, well I have it today. Without going in to too many details, the heat pump will be around 12 metres from a bedroom window at a…

Are ASHP the way to go?
We’ll be renovating our bungalow in spring time. It’s currently 9” solid wall with zero insulation anywhere. We’re planning on underfloor heating downstairs with an ASHP (approximately 90m2) and upstairs with a new dormer roof heated by radiators. We’ll be putting 4”kingspan on all external walls and 6” in the roof space.…

Anyone live in a property with a heat pump and underfloor heating only?
Viewed a nice modern build today, has a really high energy efficiency rating, it runs a electric heat pump which heats the upper and lower underfloor heating and has a wood burner as well. My question is are these's a reliable unit and especially in the winter how do you find it works?

The installers told me my water was set to come on twice a day 6 - 8 am and 4 - 6pm. is this right. There is only me and my daughter in the…

Heat pumps - COP
So I've seen from numerous places that the COP of ASHPs has got continually better ie: from a max COP of 2 or 2.5 a decade ago, to about 5 now. There's obviously seasonal variations I've not however seen the same said about a GSHP. Is it because that ASHPs are merely catching up to GSHPs in terms of COP? Or is it that the…

Those with ASHP - Winter values?
As a bit of a background I've already got solar panels and I'll be doubling my array to 6.4KwH and quadrupling my battery with the GivEnergy all in one 13.5 kWh system I also won't be getting a heat pump until I've replaced all my piping, got new windows and doors, made my house super insulted and got an MVHR too ie: to…

Heat Pump Cost Calculations
Hello all, I've recently been told I'm eligible for insulation and heating measures under one of the current goverment schemes. I've been told I'll be eligible for top loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, room in roof insulation, window ventilation, an air source heat pump and solar panels, which is all really great.…

Air source heat pump vs oil - high install cost and higher running costs ?
I are trying to help the planet by reducing carbon emissions and have been led to believe that a heat pump should be approx equivalent in running costs to a boiler. I currently have an oil boiler and use about 2000 litres oil a year to heat bungalow (about 190m2). I’ve had quote for ASHP to replace upgrade most of the…
