Air-to-water heat pump woes
Hello, I just wanted to share my experience living in a flat with an air-to-water heat pump and ask your thoughts. Since I moved into this flat, my energy bill has been high (it's a newly built one-bedroom flat - loft (EPC C), I live by myself and am not frivolous with the energy I use). Does anyone (perhaps an engineer)…

EDF Heat Pump tariff
I recently signed up to EDF 1 year fixed tariff, August 25, that was 26.36 day, 10.52 night and 64.57 standing. I have an all electric bungalow with air to air HSP and plenty of other energy saving technologies. EDF offered a 10p a kw cheaper tariff for heat pumps and enquired, but the first response was 'thanks for…

Just moved - help with new boiler!
I've just moved to a new flat on rent. And got charged a whopping £140 for electricity this month. Our boiler is an Oso 20 RD and has 2 switches - One on the thermostat and one on the wall. What are these switches and what's the best way to use them to still get hot water to shower only?

ASHP - heating issue - Aquarea
Hello I’m trying to help someone with their newly installed air source heat pump. I have absolutely no idea about them or how they work but I’m reasonably good at working things out. The problem is we want to test the heating before it gets cold but turning up the thermostat and boosting the heating doesn’t engage the ch…

Heat pumps with extra batteries
Hi all Been debating for a few years now on whether or not to get an ASHP. We had octopus out but they couldn’t make it work. I then tried other suppliers/installers, but their quotes stood out as significantly higher than octopus. Anyway, I’m still keen to make it work, especially as our gas boiler is approaching 17 years…

Heat pump, solar and battery queries (Scotland)
Hi, I've spoken to Homeshield Scotland Ltd about getting a heat pump, solar and battery under the current Scottish grant. Grant for solar has ended but heat pump grant and interest free loan still on offer. The way they have described it it sounds like I'd be mad not to go for it, how much of this is too good to be true?…

Heat Pump Servicing
We had our heat pump installed earlier this year under the ECO4 scheme. The installers are based in Yorkshire (a long way from us), and although they do offer servicing, they said they are currently fully booked with installations so not currently undertaking servicing work.I cannot find any local companies that do ASHP…

Air Source Heat Pump
I have an Air Source Heat Pump installed in my house. We are moving in next week. I did not apply for a grant under the BUS scheme from the Govt. In a nut-shell, the project is a self-build and I pay the main contractor monthly. He has appointed a non-MCS registered supplier to undertake the mechanical & plumbing services…

Octopus heat pump, can't fit! Alternatives?
I've just had my Octopus survey for a heat pump, they can't help :( . I live in a small village in a 7 year old semi. The house is suitable but there is no where to put the actual pump outside. Our side return is too narrow, we have windows at the front and long patio windows at the back. The surveyor said we would need…

Heat Pump Help. No where else to turn!
The company who installed our Air Source Heat Pump performed the sound calculation incorrectly meaning the pump is not covered by general permitted development. We have now been issued with a planning enforcement notice to re-site the pump. The installers are in administration. I have so far contacted: * HIES (Consumer…

ASHP - Legionella Cycle
My Legionella cycle is currently set to rum every week at 1am to a temperature of 60C. This setting currently uses about 4.5 kwh. My normal DHW is set to 45C. Wanted to know what others have their ASHP set to?

Use heat pump to "heat" a heat pump?
Quiet on here so thought I would ask a silly question, if you can get three times (or more) of the energy out than you put in, does it not make sense to pre-heat the air drawn in with another heat pump. which might give a COP of nine or more? I realise UK cost would be mind-boggling but heat pumps themselves are actually…

Outcome of Government Consultation on Heat Pumps?
So there was a consultation on heat pump regs with supposedly an announcement scheduled for about August - does anyone know if this is still scheduled soon and what might be in it? Asking as I am hoping to mount a HP on the side of the house on a flat roof.

Octopus ASHP, time scale
Hi all, I paid £500 deposit at the beginning of the month to Octopus for (hopefully) the installation of an ASHP. They said that I might need to wait several months before a survey and the consequence installation. Anyone had experience of how long the wait is? I currently have LPG and have 20% left in my tank. I would…

Huge radiators and single pipe gas boiler, heat pump work?
Thinking of buying a house that has an ancient gas boiler that I will be capping off as too dangerous to use, connected to huge double row radiators but running on a single pipe so the lounge (first rad) will be warm whilst the second bedroom is at the end and probably not going to get very warm, the pipework runs in the…

Non-Standard Heat Pump Packaging
Hi, I have a 3 story house in a conservation area. Total heating demand around 20kW at ~-3C although that is falling as I insulate. I was looking at various options and one of them was to install a multi-split air to air system for the top floor bedrooms which would give heating and cooling and then replace the existing…

Heat Pump Pricing versus current costs
I see City Plumbing have the Samsung Ehs 5Kw Heat Pump High Temp R290 Monobloc at £2500 inc delivery. This is air to water, a hot water cylinder is an extra grand but being into cold water showers something I would avoid. With just connecting to radiators this should be a relatively simple fit as long as you have an…

Can one heat pump run both radiators and underfloor heating at different temperatures?
I'm doing a renovation and want underfloor heating upstairs and radiators downstairs (it's an upside down house) with both powered by an Air Source Heat Pump. Do I need one or two Heat Pumps for this? If I have one ASHP can it provide water to the radiators at more than 55C and at the same time water to the underfloor…

Hitachi Yutaki (ASHP and Indoor Unit & DHW Cylinder)
Are there any other members on here that have the Hitachi Yutaki (ASHP and Indoor Unit & DHW Cylinder)? I have just moved to a property with this system and looking for some help. Equipment: * As far as I can tell it's S Combi, this is the model number RWD-3.0RW1E-220S-K, so the HW tank is within the indoor box. * The heat…
