Heat pump warranty

Have recently got a quote from Octopus which says that the heat pump is guaranteed for 5 years. I don't have experience in heat pumps but the gas boilers I've got installed both have a warranty of 10 years. Is 5 years normal for an HP?

You can extend the warranty to 8 years for an additional cost on the daikin site.

Gas boilers, particularly at the budget end of the market can come with as little as 3 years. Mid range are typically 5-7 years, and if you want 10 year warranty, you have to pay top dollar.
Whilst heat pumps have been around for quite a long time, there isn't really enough installs  to gauge how long they are lasting in real life. As the number of installs increase, I would hope that the manufacturers monitor the data and can start offering longer warranties. In the meantime 5 year is acceptable, and still longer than you'd get with most household appliances.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Perhaps its time we had a bit of a poll on the reliability of heatpumps compared to boilers. Although as with everything people complain a lot more than they praise so most polls get skewed by those with an axe to grind.

Our Daikin heatpump had a 3 year warranty when we got it over fourteen years ago and in that time we've had two instances where a flow switch has stuck (the same type of flow switch that is fitted to gas boilers - so not a specific heat pump problem as such). The fault shows up as a specific error code, so I know what it is

Fortunately an easy fix which I can do myself., just isolate the unit with the isolating valves so the whole system doesn't have to be drained. Drain the water from the unit, remove the switch, clean it and replace, refill and it's OK again for another 3-4 years.

You'd have to do something similar with a gas boiler with a similar fault although you probably need a Gas-Safe engineer to do it.

We did have it "serviced" in the first three years to maintain the warranty but as all a service does is to check wiring connections, system water pressure and not much else I now just get someone round every five years. To my mind there's probably less to go wrong in a heatpump than there is in a gas or oil boiler and electronics in either are just reliable or not.

    Thanks for the insight.

You register for the free 5 year warranty on the Daikin website.
You can increase the warranty to 7 years for an extra £221.
    I did it yesterday.

Interesting to hear. Could you elaborate?

I think the new cozy 6 HP is not Daikin (at least there is no "Daikin" on the pictures of them that I have seen).

My only problem is owning a Daikin heat pump!

It will only take a few hours to resolve, swapping out heat pumps is a simple DIY job.

Just the cost is the painful part!
