Are there any Lilies which are not toxic to cats?
All parts of Lilies are apparently toxic to cats, and even a brush of pollen on the fur can be fatal. Do you know of any Lilies which are safe? I'd love to have some Lilium Regale or any othere which are safe.

Cordyline Australis Help!!
Hello good morning, I need some advice from you experts out there. Our friends wanted to get rid of their Cordylines so we happily said we wanted them. We know the difficulty in moving them but we took good advice and we’re extremely careful with the roots. They’ve been here for about 4 weeks and have plenty of space but…

Hi, I am a relatively novice Gardner and need some help please. I would like to grow Allium. I like the tall flowers. This might be a silly question hut bear with me. Most allium I have seen in other people's garden have nice tall flowers but leaves leaves are quite small, many are yellow. Are all allium like this where…

Getting rid of ivy for good
I have a major ivy and bramble problem which I am really struggling with. I didn't want to use any chemicals but I think I probably need to. I wandered to an area of our plot that I hadn't looked at for a while and it is completely overrun with ivy. This is incredibly frustrating as I spent a couple of days at the end of…

Japanese horsetail (Equisetum japonicum) in a pond; will it spread outside
In local pond centre looking at plants for my pond Was taken by this plant. Vertical structure would look really good. Its being sold as an aquatic plant and would live with the roots submerged in water. Didn't get them but was planning to get them tomorrow however, slightly confused about what is being said about its…

one branch of a tree dying
Just noticed that one branch of one of my plum trees appears to be dying. The other branches are proceeding as normal - ie plums forming. This branch, however, had leaves there and those very tiny starter plums. However, the little plum-lets have shrivelled and died and the leaves are shrivelled and brown. 1. Wondering why…

New Lawn problems
Hi, Hope this is the correct thread, but I am a bit desperate and total gardening novice. Long story short, I have a south facing lawn approx 8 x 13 metres which is is full sun in the afternoon. I employed a recommended guy to take it up and replace, which he did last Thurs 9th May. Well, his two subbies did the work, he…

Is my tree dying?
I've been watching it waiting for leaves to appear from the buds and just noticed that one branch has leaves. I think it's an acer? I'm not sure whether the leaves should be that thin or whether it's another sign of an unhealthy tree. There's some lichen on it, and I spotted some aphids around the leaves - I've seen…

Poundland shrubs 50p
Poundland shrubs are now scanning at 50p. They are in card tubes in the gardening section: hypericum, buddleia, forsythia, philadelphus They also have fruit: gooseberry, raspberry, blackberry and various roses. Check for signs of life. They are often kept dark and dry. But excellent value. There are also some perennials in…

Cost of a gardener
Hi all, I have a small-to-medium sized garden and have admittedly not taken care of it as much I have could have. It's not in a terrible state but want it to look pretty. One of the things I want someone to do aside from the general maintenance is to remove a number of shrubs on the outer permiter and cut back some hedges…

Fruit in containers?
I have acquired a large planter, about 1 foot diameter, 1 foot deep. I haven't got anything earmarked for it so I wondered about a fruit tree. I've done a bit of reading and narrowed choices down to cherry, apple or fig. I have a greenhouse so can bring a fig in over winter. Just my reading seems to say cherry should be in…

White Tomato Leaves
I transferred my tomato plants from indoors and into the greenhouse at the weekend and found yesterday the leaves edges have turned white-ish. A quick Google suggested it would be the strong sunlight that is the cause after the transfer, and will be putting up some shade later. Has anybody had the same experience, and if…

Green house door - off again!
Have an Eden Hall green house - almost five years old now. But is it me, or do others have similar problems in high 40+mph winds the door comes off!? Before hand, closed the door, and not warmth enough to have any windows open. The door ideally slides open and closed, rollers on top, guides on the bottom to keep it in…

Veg in the front garden
Hi I'm a regular elsewhere on this site, but not ventured on to this board before, so apologies if this is either a daft idea or already been discussed at length. I'd like to grow veg and/or fruit in my front garden. I have no back garden at all, and not a very big front garden. It wraps round the side of my…

Lowering concrete garden / parking spce
Hi, I live in a ground floor flat with a share of the freehold. I have a small patio and then a raised parking space (around 4ft higher). I would like to excavate the parking space to increase the size of the patio. Can anyone give advise on if I need planning permission to do this? Flat is in SW London. Many thanks, Fred.
