My first post in this part of the forum...
Can any of the green fingered experts suggest an appropriate type of hedge to run along our back fence ?Idea being to reduce wind exposure in the garden and to act as a deterrent for any scrotes thinking of jumping over, something a bit prickly ?
I’m no gardener but don’t mind giving something a trim now and again, but nothing that’s going to take over the garden overnight.
Fence is 6ft and it’s a new build so I don’t expect the ground/soil will be of any quality.
What do I need ?
Thanks

An evergreen prickly hedge that's not too fussy, will eventually reach 2m+ andshould slow the wind..... is probably Berberis darwinii.0

Holly could be another option, not always the green type, variegated maybe? Mix in male & female to ensure some berries for the birdsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

If you go for a mixed hedge include some dog rose (Rosa canina). I swear if you go anywhere near it it will attack you. Good for keeping people out but needs something with it to provide bulk.0
