Sideways move offered but step up opportunities elsewhere
Hi, A bit of a long one; bare with me please! I've just started job hunting and have applied for a number of jobs. One was my dream role (I thought) and would have been a step up. I made it to the second round and am now awaiting next steps but I think I bombed it, and am unlikely to get it. The recruitment (hr) process…

Husband made to feel like he's on trial for job application process. Was this normal?
My Husband has just withdrawn his application for a very long and tedious application process for the job of *drumroll* Cleaner. And just to note they needed someone Urgently. He is feeling a bit deflated, embarrassed and frustrated. I want to hear your thoughts on this one. He applied for a cleaning job for the fire…

Unused leave buy-out proposal is missing some benefit (equity)
Hello Please could you offer some advice. My employer is changing leave rules so that unused leave can no longer be carrier forward, and so is buying-out everyone's excess balance. This is fine. My remuneration is made up of cash and equity. Let's say for the sake of example I get £30k cash and £10K equity per year. I'm…

Reduced Hours. Feels Strange.
I've dropped from 5 days to 4 in the NHS. Mentally needed some time away from work as we're under a lot of pressure and the opportunities for development have not been there. I feel a lot better as a result but unfortunately my manager seems to have let slip that it was for mental health reasons and I overheard colleagues…

Employment Tribunal
I am taking my former employer to an employment tribunal after using ACAS's early conciliation process. Is this something that is best done through an employment solicitor or can the individual do it themselves? ETA - I have a date for the preliminary hearing and just filling in the required paperwork.

New job - not enough work
Hi everyone. I started a new job a few months ago but it feels like there’s not a full time job for me here and I’m finding it quite demoralising. Other new people in the team are in the same position and we’re trying to generate work but how long that will take is a “how long is a piece of string” situation. The people…

If you were in my shoes....
The good old nhs pay new staff higher wages if they do a 'management' role. This could be something as simple as filling in the staff annual leave calender, which they are given half a day to fulfill. They rest if the week will be filled with clinical duties that are exactly the same as the pay band lower. How would you…

Enforced breaks on zero hour contracts
My wife works for a care agency. Scheduling of visits sometimes results in quite long breaks between visits. These are not generally not long enough to go home or do something else. The agency won’t pay her for these, effectively enforced breaks. As she is obliged to her employer during these breaks shouldn’t she be paid?

TUPE or not TUPE
I work in the public sector - my department was managed by a private sector organisation since 2008. Later this year the department is going back under public sector control. My T&Cs were transferred from public sector to private sector in 2008 and now I have the option to TUPE back. I am eligible to rejoin LGPS regardless…

So my wonderful husband has left me and I have realised I don't want to be stuck in retail forever, not enough money. I was looking at something data/finance wise but have to clue where to start. I'm currently doing a history degree with the open uni and now I see that won't help me and the kids much when it comes to…
