They Go Up-diddly-up-up
As is traditional as the increase in house prices/unsustainable bubble/immoral boomer-pocket-filling-fest continues, lenders cut their lending standards: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/borrowing/mortgages/11855490/Another-major-lender-offers-5-deposit-mortgages.html I wonder who will offer the first…

Your time travelling to work IS work and should be paid for
European courts have ruled that time travelling to first and from last appointments is actually work and should therefore be paid. This is for those whose work is mobile, so care workers (crucially), gas fitters etc. According to the news doing something a bit more in depth, it could also apply to those who do field work…

Where will all the refugees live?
All these refugees arriving on UK soil, some officially some less so, where will they all live? I know the perma property Bulls will say it's even more demand while supply is not going up as fast. But it doesn't matter how many people want to live in a certain property, all that matters is how many can raise funds. Look at…

Living wage - does good politics result in bad economics?
Justin King former boss of Sainsburys certainly thinks so but the HYS comments were universally in favour of the living wage. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34090038 The background is of course a budget promise to spend other peoples money to distract from what can only be described as swinging cuts in support for low…

Suggestions of an EU treasury and common wage policy EU wide
Junker has today, on the back of the migrant crisis announced the plans for the EU. They include, crucially, an EU treasury and a common wage policy, meaning jobs pay the same across the EU. Obviously this would have massive implications on our own economy. If we pay more for the jobs, do we open ourselves up to an influx…

Rent Controls - The Swedish Experience
With Corbynmania enveloping a portion of the English left, and Sturgeon already having mentioned rent controls as a good idea for Scotland, now might be a good time to look at the evidence from elsewhere to remind us all of why it's such an incredibly idiotic thing to actually do. As I have frequently noted, rising rents…

Where would you buy if you were a bit of a nomad?
I have been tossing around with the idea that I need to buy something in London and don’t really know what to do! Both my partner and I are nomadic in nature, we absolutely love to explore the world and have been moving around countries for decades, luckily we both have jobs that allow us to do so, speak languages so…

How much is 8500 Euros worth today?
If anyone could help me please it would be very much appreciated. My Mum is about to receive an inheritance cheque very shortly but I want to ensure she is receiving the right amount. A distance relative died in the Republic Of Ireland in 1999 and they had a balance at that time of 8,500 Euros. To cut a very, very long…

Budget 2015 Interest Tax Deduction Landords - Analysis of impact
Here is my analysis of the impact of the recent Budget announcements, and how it affects the Breakeven point for Landords. The point of this blog is to explore the impact on how much a landlord can borrow, how much more tax is payable and how a lower rate taxpayer may end up paying higher are tax. Link:…

house prices really picking up pace
i stopped monitoring house prices this year and just checked in recently to see what houses were going for in my street and there has been a surge in sold prices, asking prices, estimates this year. I can't help but spare a thought for those who rent as what chance do they have now? Even rents are moving up.

Population changes.....
Another history of numbers show worth listening to. -Of every 100 people in the census of 1841, about 42 were children. -Today that has halved to 21 out of 100. -Think of a room of 10 people, 6 adults and 4 children, a century ago. Now there are 8 adults and 2 children today. -At the beginning of the 20th century, 50% of…
