Wife's pension found - but what to do?
I am my wife's full time carer. We get Universal Credit and I make a few extra pounds doing this and that locally, and we get by. Just discovered that my wife has a pension from decades ago when she worked for a big bank. We have to decide whether to take a 25% tax free cash lump of it, a yearly pension, or transfer…

Do I have to report this?
I am on UC. Last week they sent me over £2000 as arrears of underpayment because they messed up TP when I migrated in 2021. All well and great but this takes my bank balance over £6000 now. I know arrears are disregarded for a year but someone told me I still need to declare being over limit even though they gave it to me…

Childcare less than tax free limits, worth overpaying?
My childcare costs will reduce in September due to 30 hours funded hours. My child will be 2 in October. The "free money" form the government is temping but as my childcare fees will be much lower than the £2k a quarter I need to put in the account, is there any point? My nursery is council owned so 30 hours means 30 hours…

Help needed with pension credit and work
Hi, I used to trade at events and still have stock left that is costing me money for storage.I would like to do some events to sell it off.I'm sure I read somewhere that you can earn up to £140 per week without it effecting Pension credit. I'm not going to be working weekly, so I take it this can be averaged out over the…

High Income Child Benefit Charge
After a few years of not claiming Child Benefit, my wife and I started claiming it again at the beginning of the 2024/2025 tax year due to the changes in the thresholds from £50000 - £60000 to £60000 - £80000. As a result I needed to reregister for Self Assessment. My P60 became available today so I thought I might as well…

Joint Saving Account - UC ?
Hi, I currently have a joint savings account with my wife whilst claiming UC as a couple. I want to move the savings to an account with a higher interest rate. Would this affect any benefits I claim ?
I'll be leaving my current job under a Voluntary Exit via Enhanced Settlement Agreement. Basically I leave the job and get a lump sum to do so. I'm also in the process of moving house, I was gonna to use my savings to reduce my mortgage on the new property. With this lump sum I'd be able to pay the mortgage off in full and…

Free childcare- do gratuities count toward the minimum income?
Hi, my wife’s 16 hour per week job at a restaurant is being cut to 15 and a half hours a week, placing her below the threshold for being able to claim the free childcare. However she also gets paid gratuities as TRONC through her payslip, to the level which puts her above the threshold again. I believe that as this is…
