ive been trying to open a word file on office 97 disc on my pc which has office xp but all i get is page full of small squares what am i doing wrong

WINRAR no longer free
Apologies if this is on the wrong board, but it seemed like a reasonable place to put it. Just tried using WinRAR (downloaded originally, ages ago, from Rarlabs), to get a message saying it's no longer free and I must buy a licence. Is this true, and if so, where can I get a freebie to repalce it?

copy via media player or free cd copying software
i tried ripping an audio cd via windows media player at WAV lossess quality, then burning it to a blank disc. however i now have 2 sec delays between tracks. is this to do with the WAV format and can i fix it by using say windows media lossless to rip? or am i better off using some software to do a direct copy of the cd?…
