Comments

  • its in an unsupported file extention (.doc, .rft, .txt ect) dont think office xp supports office 97 .doc files.

    so what are my options
  • you could right click the file and goto the open with option and open it in notepad or wordpad then copy and paste that into office xp, and then reformat it.

maybe openoffice would be able to read the old O97 .doc files.

Failing that there was a compatibility tool but it was removed from MS downloads due to security look here

open office certainly can open mso97 files and i'm very surprised that office xp can't, in fact disbelieving tbh.
Sounds more like the cd is unreadable and has corrupted the info or the filter in your office xp has, shadow has a good idea with open in wordpad, ms used to do "word" viewers, be very surprised if you can't get one to open it but also try on a different cd drive.
