Outlook Express via BT Broadband

Ever since i inherited this pc i've had hassle with trojans/virus's/adware etc Now i've lost some registry files.If i get a w2000disc from somewhere?can i overwrite the existing info? and will it replace the registry?. Could i overwrite 2000 with xp instead? Any advice please?? :confused:

Microsoft Antispyware deliberately ignores adware
Story here and here Must say I've really started to like MSAntispyware over the past few months. But I did wonder how aggressive it would be when Microsoft were in charge of defining spyware. I guess now we know *sigh* It still detects the adware in question - but it recommends you ignore it rather than remove it
