How to get rid of IE?

I use Firefox as my browser and wish to get rid of Internet Explorer (my wife for instance uses it) so that I will be less at risk from Malware. How do i get rid???

For XP, under 'Add or Remove Programs' there is a facility to 'Add/Remove Windows Components', it's in there.

I don't think it's recommended to get rid of IE as it is integrated into XP.

You may also sometimes have to use it in future - a lot of sites still can only be visited by IE

Can windows update work without Explorer?
  • I would have suggested leaving it on the machine as well. If you don't want OH to use it, do what I did. Just deleted the desktop shortcut, and told OH that FF was the new version. Simplicity itself. Of course if your OH is more technically savvy than mine, you may also want to remove it from the start menu.

could also add Firefox to Startup menu so it's automatically starting whenever you logon/switch on, mild annoyance if you didn't need to use it that time say but if there's a browser in front of someone hopefully they'll use it!

    I use Firefox too.

My wife complained I'd removed IE, but soon got used to Firefox out of necessity. In fact, she prefers it now, though some of the high street store sites still spit their dummies if you don't browse using IE. They'll get it sooner or later

I didn't delete IE, I just deleted the shortcuts to it and made Firefox my default browser.

    cheers
