Outlook Express via BT Broadband

Since changing from BT dial up to BT Broadband, I've not been able to use OE as an email system. I'm sure there must be a way but I haven't worked it out. Can any of you good folk give any advice?

I use Outlook instead of OE but the principle should be the same... Last year, BT sent an e-mail out warning that you would have to use your password to log into the e-mail system.

They may have used your caller ID on Dial Up to validate you, but can do this on Broadband. Try changing your settings on OE. If you've got a problem with how to do this, post back and we'll help.

What this e-mail failed to mention, however, is that the username and password required is that of the e-mail account (something@btinternet.com) that BT have provided with your broadband package, no matter what account you actually use to communicate with the world at large. It's needed to log-in to their SMTP server (mail.btinternet.com) in order for you to send mail.

What BT have to say about it: Alternatives to SMTP Authentication: *That's what I had to do, because I use this.
  • I went from BT dial up to Broadband via another ISP but still retained BT's e-mail's which I collect via OUTLOOK.

All I did was check that the settings were as the website, which I see are listed above. Double check these and you should have not problems.

If you still have problems then I have plenty of invites for a G-mail account, just PM me.
