    There's a comparison table here icon7.gif

I don't think the average person really needs anything in xp pro

I've used both Home and Pro versions and, given the choice, I'd go for Pro every time. I've heard that Pro is more stable and secure, but it also has some nice little extras, like reminding you to change your Windows password every so often.

The info pop-ups that you get when you point your mouse at anything seemed to be more useful on Pro as well.

    i love windows 2000 pro.

basically windows xp is just a more graphically enhanced windows 2000, it is based on the same technology and only adds a few beneficial features (such as system restore) but it also hogs up a lot more system resources than w2k; and basically myself and others refer to windowsxp as bloatware, you will gradually find windows xp becoming very lethargic!

it depends on what you need windows to do.

if you are dead set on upgrading to windows xp, see what you need, home has all the features any normal user will require, whereas pro adds a few features including home assistance, where you are able to remotely acess someone elses pc (with their permission etc) remember google is your friend ;)

If it comes down to how much you can afford to spend, I would buy XP Home Edition. I've used both Home and Pro and really Average Joe or Jo would be hard pressed to tell the difference. I'm using Home at this moment - it is very stable (can't actually remember the last time it crashed). Make sure you are fully up-to-date with all the latest Microsoft patches and you should be fine.
