Is there a benefit to getting track eraser and anonymous surfing internet security software like GhostSurf Platinum ? Is it really worth the money and do they provide adequate protection?

I guess it really depends what you get up to on your PC and if other people use it that may check up on you...
I don't think tools like this offer any protection against the authorities, tho if maybe you've been to more mature sites that you don't want your kids (or your folks!) to know about, then they would be fine.
However, so long as you clear your internet cache and temporary files after browsing, empty your recycle bin and clear your history, only the more dedicated techie could see what you've been up to.
There is currently no such thing as truely anonymous web surfing, athough a few technologies are currently being developed (I2P, and a couple of others), and there are a few tools out there to make things more difficult (I forget their names).
Many of the features that the application you have mentioned seem to be available elsewhere for free, Before spending your hard earned cash, you would probably be better off searching for a cheaper or free alternatives on https://www.downloads.com or Tucows .0 -
Personally I wouldn't waste your money.. unless you've got something to hide!
You will find suffice security through a decent firewall, antivirus software and regular spyware/adware scans, and a little common sense. Like chem says, if you're worried about certain sites popping up in the history then go through your internet options etc and delete them from time to time.
As for secure encryption algorithms, by todays standards regular encryption algorithms are fairly unbreakable.. a brute force cracker on a top range PC (or a thousand linked together) will not break todays encryptions in a million years due to the sheer number of possible keys. Perhaps worry about encryption when quantum computers are on the go, at which point quantum cryptography shall be in place.
This is why hackers are now looking at stealing your info either before it is encrypted (keyloggers, phishing etc) or social engineering/identity theft hence the need for a little common sense when surfing.Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication - Leonardo Da Vinci0
