MSE Lingo!!!!
I have been on MSE for a short while now and it is getting on my nerves not knowing what the abbreviations mean: DD? DS? SOA? MIL? - Mother in law. DSW?- Debt saving wannabe???? OH? - Other half (I think) OPP? Eh? Etc etc etc Please post translations for any and all abreviations so that my tiny brain can make sense of…

Position of Thanks button
I'm sure I saw a discussion somewhere quite recently about moving the thanks button to the left hand side of the screen. I have just accidentally thanked a post because having clicked to turn the page over, my mouse pointer was directly in line with the thanks button, and being on a laptop with a very sensitive touchpad,…

pyramid scams/spamming etc
is there something in rules on mse which says once a posting has been reported people should stop posting underneath to stop it being bumped up to top of forum? if not there should be (for obvious reasons)

Keeping track of certain posts?
Is there a way to do this? Without having to go off and physically search for them that is! Obviously I want to keep track of my own posts but others like the grocery one for example I want to keep up on.

Martin -attention, deliberately deceptive advertising
Hi Martin, Do you feel the need to launch a new campaign? If so, what better cause could there be than getting together a petition to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) concerning all the deliberately misleading advertising that they are permitting! I am SO sick of the meaningless words "up to" in advertising…

Being signed (timed out)
Is there a way to stop being signed out after a short period of activity. I just had a phone call that lasted about 15 minutes, and find when I return I have been logged out and all the posts are showing as read. This seems to happen on a regular basis if I am called away for any reason

Thanks and No Thanks Button
Ok so we have a Thanks button, but how about a No Thanks, or Not Helpful button. Kind of like Digg. It's just a suggestion, but I've seen on occassions poor advice, where people have Thanked the post believing it to be accurate. A No Thanks button would help identify poor or inacurrate posts or poor advice. I know it's…

Swiss Life/pioneer Mutual
Can anyone help? I took out an endowment with a company called Pioneer Mutual in 1987, who were later taken over by Swiss Life. I registered my complaint via Swiss Life website as I was unable to locate a UK address for them. As this was a number of weeks ago & I have heard nothing I wondered if there was anyone out there…

Student Loan Debt - Articles??
Hi there, I've been reading through the posts on this site for a while now, great site!!! Anyway, i've yet to find any articles on student loans. There are over 5 million people in the UK who have a student loan and these are on average well over £10k. It came as a great surprise to me when I got my first statement through…

So The Bored thread is now closed
Hi - I know this will get deleted very quickly s the original has now been closed, but I think it is a real shame that forums are closed or deleted so arbitrarily - sorry no idea how to spell that one!! In creating a space for forums, Martin should have or could have expected this to create a life of its own and sooner or…

MSE's Budget Form error...
Hi guys, Our finances are in a pickle and so last night I downloaded the MSE budget form in excel format - I only have OpenOffice installed on my PC (due to loosing Office2000 discs!), OpenOffice opened the document and I've enabled the macro's - but when I click on any of the buttons (expenditure etc) on the right hand…

What's up with my thanks & smilies?
I seem to be having problems with a couple of things here. The first is the 'thanks' facility. Whenever I either click to thank someone, or click to see who has thanked a post, it doesn't register and just takes me to the top of that page. Very annoying! The other thing, is when I'm writing a post, if I click on a smilie,…

User Links on failed searches
I've searched for this but not found anything like it, so I shall suggest. Is there any chance that we can have the main user links (including the 'search' link) appear when we don't get any matches from our search? It's quite frustrating to have to hit 'back' and go back to the search link (I know, I'm lazy) - I would be…

Guests on the Site
I have looked for this and I can't find a answer so apologies if it has been asked before. But what are "guests" they always outnumber the registered users, can they post? or are they being picked up somehow by lurking on the site
