freezing cream
Have just had a big family "do" and actually managed the catering very well - very little left-over except good stuff to enjoy the following day. Except for cream.....4 cartons of beautiful Longley Farm single cream. I shall keep one or two past the "use by" because they are very good for a few extra days. I know that the…

What's this noise????
My son has been complaining about a tapping noise, coming from within on of his bedroom walls. He googled it, and said that it might be a death watch beetle!!! I have recently watched, the Enfield Haunting, as well as currently watchingThe living and the dead. So, with my stupid immediate thoughts, I gave him a very wide…

OS menopause memories?
I'm wondering if any of the older ladies can remember their mothers coping with the menopause before HRT was used? I think I might be in the perimonopause stage but I'm pretty anti drugs in general, and as the menopause is a natural part of a woman's life I always assumed I would just let it run its course. My dear mum…

End of school year = free paper!
My daughter always ends up with many partially or totally unused A4 and A5 school notebooks at the end of the year. She used to just toss them in the recycling, but a few years back I was looking at her work and realised how much perfectly good paper was going to waste. If the books are completely unused I will offer them…

can I make stock in a haybox?
Just a thought really, I've started making a few meals in a haybox and they've turned out really well and it's been lovely not having the cooker on for so long with it being so warm recently. Would I be able to make stock in a haybox or does the stock need to bubble and simmer to get the good stuff out of the bones? I have…

Washing soda liquefying in the heat?
Has anyone else experienced this? Just been to put a wash on and as usual have gone to put a scoop of washing soda in with the washing powder to find that the soda crystals look damp. It's not damp though as it's kept in a lock and lock container in a cupboard above the fridge freezer. Weird I thought, and then spotted an…

Frozen courgette
I'm trying to use up everything in my freezer as it could do with a good defrost and start again. I've come across a bag of frozen courgettes... Anyone have any great recipes that could help me to use these up? Otherwise it will be meat and courgette for the next week! Edited: Also have a lot of frozen sausages to use up.…

Gold Mining Shares?
Hi again, I was sorting through my late Mothers old paper work today and came across this. The South-Eastern Gold Mining Company share Warrant certificate. I have an address Registered Office 155, Herne Hill, London S.E.24. I have googled the info, but got nowhere. This share thing must have been her partners, who died…

Vegetarian freezeable meals
Off the back of another thread I've started thinking about doubling up on meals so that a portion can be frozen. My husband is vegetarian so we don't tend to eat meat at home, and I've often found that vegetable-based dishes will go mushy when frozen :( Does anyone have any tips as to recipes that are vegetarian and…
