This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
Thanks for starting us off Gers, the fish have been fed, the DW emptied, the WM is chugging away and next I need to make hubby's pack up.
Today I'm visiting a local homeless charity to drop of some outgrown men's clothes and some unwanted toiletries and phoning another charity about some furniture.
I'm looking after the DGC from 12 - 2 and then 7 - midnight.
I hope to paint a bit more of the bathroom too if I can fit it in.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone.
Looks grey outside again, same as yesterday and that turned out to be glorious.
The morning work passed well and my afternoon was full of writing a report and chasing up students. Even though I cut the grass on Tuesday I gave it another 'shave' last night as it looked as if it needed it. The grass had been fairly long so perhaps the first cut was too high. Its been so awful looking that recently I've been feeding it and it's certainly worked.
Today I want to clear out the back barn. There's too many empty bags lying around and now there's also the lagging off the water tank and the tank itself. Tip time again.
I'm going to a fifth birthday party this afternoon but it'll be low key and without jelly and ice cream. Happily there'll be very few there as most of his school friends are already away on holiday.
I hope everyone has a great Friday.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's quite overcast this morning but inside it's sunshine all the way as my DD13 is in a fantastic mood as she is just leaving for a school trip to Cardiff to see the Dr Who experience. She is a huge fan so she is very excited.
My DD16 is coming home from her residential today and she has begged me not to make her go to the next one. She doesn't want to do the NCS thing any more. I am so proud of her that she managed to do a whole week as she has severe anxiety and never leaves the house except for school. We will have a proper talk over the weekend and see if there are any compromises we can make as it would be a shame to just jack it in without seeing if there are any other options. I am really looking forward to seeing her though as I have really missed her.
We had the grandchildren all day yesterday and they are coming back on Saturday to sleep here as their Mum and Step dad are off to a wedding. They are such live wires I need to think of things to do with them. Luckily all the girls will be here so they will be pressed into entertainment duties.
I need to ring my energy supplier quite urgently as we are down to less than a £1 on the meter and our electric key doesn't work any more. I have foregone my cup of tea so I can use the computer. I hope the engineer comes out quickly to put some more emergency credit on as this is a pain to be honest.
I don't know what to make for tea tonight so I will send the kids freezer diving in a bit. We had lasagne and salad yesterday which was lovely but there were no leftovers unfortunately.
Well I hope you all have a a great time today whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning, still dry but cooler and a bit overcast.
Nothing to report, made chicken marinated in lemon, soy and honey last night, with hm wedges as sone leafy salad grown by me and harvested by Spiderman on one of his trips out through the window.
I'm tireder than a tired thing, might try going back to bed. Been sleeping in the spare room as am so restless but don't think OH is blissful about this. I should have thought he'd be pleased, he says that sleeping in a bed containing me is like having a pet whirling dervish that is hell -bent on hitting you in the eye.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, but very grey and overcast.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. Boys still in their pits.
Dinner last night was a disjointed one, myself and the boys had frittata, stuffed jacket potatoes, beans and HM coleslaw. DH was late in so I then made him omelette (with same filling we had in the frittata), jacket potato, beans and HM coleslaw. Some HM coleslaw LO. Dinner tonight maybe burgers and hotdogs on the bbq, not sure yet.
I wasn't that productive yesterday, although I did all the ironing, stripped DS1's bed and get that bedding washed and line dried. I also went to town to visit the building society and bank. I also did a few jobs on the pc. I will be heading to the SM shortly. Will just take it steady as I'm working tomorrow morning too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Looks like another scorcher here work have purchased to fans for the kitchen, they are the most ineffectual things ever ! they stand about 8 inches high and are a cylinder shape and really make no difference at all !!
Yay for Friday though, usual takeaway and wine tonight which I am very much looking forward to, the housework can wait till tomorrow !
Specky I am 47 and still play PlayStationI find it relaxing and lose myself in the games for a while !
Will do a wash tonight ready to hang out in the morning.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning, thanks for the thread Gers
HH - another busy day for you! Hope the weekend will be restful.
dumpling - that's a shame if DD doesn't want to continue. Good for her giving it a try.
redruby - we have a 4ft fan in the charity office that just blows the warm air around. Also the Windows (2 X sash) are painted shut which I'm sure is illegal. We have the management coming on 1st August to take a look.
Finished work slightly earlier yesterday due to said fan and painted shut Windows. Got two loads washed and line dried as warm here but cloudy. Went to Costco with DH then he had scouts and DD and I went to her rugby end of season BBQ. Then I dropped her at a friends house for a sleepover.
Washing is on. Today I am at the church then food shopping later at Aldi I will be doing some jobs in the church garden tomorrow - lifting some plants in preparation for some building works due to start shortly. I am a qualified gardener (RHS) and worked in the industry for 7 years prior to starting at the church two years ago. Just hope the volunteer who does the garden doesn't start ordering me about, as I won't be happy.
Have a good day all
Coxy
Oh forgot to say that DH has been asked back for a second interview on 3rd August as he's away next week with scoutsCross-stitch WIP: Haberdashery Shop Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 18/25 Currently reading It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover0 -
Morning everyone,
Dry but overcast here, still warm so downstairs windows all open to cool things off.
No work today thankfully, we all work in one large, open plan office and a colleague who can see his screens told me that new Manager spent most of his day surfing on the Internet, gggrr and I was so busy, just not good enough and something will need to be said
Off to SM for fresh stuff, need to get back for 11am as have plumber coming to look at loo in en-suite.
Changed the beds yesterday but still need to iron bedding for the one that Mum sleeps in, too hot yesterday afternoon for steam iron. Also hope to steam clean the upstairs floors as pleased with the result when I did downstairs.
Mum has said she will spend today at her home as have friends who would like to see her so will pick her up tomorrow morning.
Yay for second interview for Mr Coxy :j
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Good Morning chums, and another warm day ahead I think, even though its a bit cloudy at the moment.
Holiday calendar is all done and dusted with the boys :)and hanging up in their kitchen. They all take it in turn to cross off the days until we go:)21 today and we shall be on our way back to our beloved Isle of Wight.
This afternoon I am taking the youngest boy Mikey with me as I have a history club and leaving him with his next brother up Henry isn't an option,as they argue . But Mikey is fine and quite happy to come as the rest of the folk there tend to spoil him a bit for his cheeky face, blonde hair and baby blue eyesHe is quite an engaging little boy as well I know we are doing Billy Holiday this afternoon, but if he gets bored (unlikely) our tutor has a stack of PC games he can try or books if he wants to read ,plus of course she is an amazing cake maker so he will not go hungry
:):)
Tomorrow I have my list made out for my (fingers crossed ) last food shop before the holiday out of 21 days left I only have to cook for myself for 14 of them as I have quite a few social things coming up,next weekend I am away at Faversham for my sis-in-laws 70th birthday party so I have no cooking to do at all. A lot of my evening meals will be freezer driven, as my freezer has quite a few already made meals from some batch cooking so mainly I will be only buying odds and ends and a bit of a top-up shop.
Right time to get a wiggle on as I want a shower and then its off to Dds for another day of the boysWe had a really good day yesterday so hopefully it will be the same today
Hope everyone will enjoy the summer break with their children I know I do with the DGS.
Fingers crossed for Mr Coxy's second interview.
Lainy hope your Mum is Ok.
dumpling I hope your DD enjoys her Dr Who experience
H/H enjoy your painting
nmlc I only managed part of the ironing last night it was just too hot,so a lot of the stuff was folded neatly and put away:):)
Life's far too short and hot to get bothered about it
Gers my gardener came yesterday and cut the lawn and bless him even in the heat weeded all the bits around the shrubs as well
AOD this heat is very sapping ,I think its because we are just not used to it
Gers good luck with your clearing of rubbish, barns I stay away from as I'm not keen on what may come to life in there !!!
Cheers everyone

Morning All
Wet start again today, yesterday was dull to start with and turned out really hot (same as you Gers). Looks like the rain may be about for a bit longer today though.
Went for a much needed hair cut yesterday, pottered about in the garden for a bit then cycled to the hospice - forgot about the great big hill it's on. Still, coming home was very quick! Dinner was the last of the veg stir fried, must go shopping today. Also out of salad stuff.
I'll go swimming in a bit (when the pensioners have been in) and had arranged to go for a cycle with a friend but we'll see what the weather's like later.
Well done to your DD dumpling.
Lainey - Hope your Mum gets an appointment quickly.
Good luck for Mr Coxy's 2nd interview.
Feel better soon AOD.
Happy Friday! Take care. XX0
