RCD on garage freezer or not RCD?
I've always had an RCD plug on my garage freezer but due to some new builds going up by us, we've been having a few power cuts over the last few months, nothing too long lasting, just a couple of hours at a time. It's meant I've had to go out to the garage and reset the trip so the plug goes back on. Got me thinking, it is…

Any soapmakers out there?
I have been making soap for a while but have never done this before! Last week I made half the usual quantity of soap, but I now realise that I used the full quantity of lye! I know it is not safe to use as soap but can this be used for, say household cleaning. I really want to avoid throwing it away if possible. Many…

Student food "staples" parcel - suggestions?
HI, my goddaughter is going off to Uni at the end of the month. She has been stocked up with pots and pans, cutlery, plates etc. I thought I would put together a "hamper" or "parcel" of staples that would help her cook and which can be pricey. So, things like a small bottle of olive oil, mixed herbs, chilli etc Any…

Preparing for winter
It's pretty chilly today in our home. We have a top floor maisonette so bedrooms are on fourth level, get strong gales from park opposite. It's only Sept but as it is getting cold, I need a few tips. We only moved in end of Jan, so have not really had a full winter here and bit apprehensive as to how it will be. There are…

Help please!
Wasn't sure where to post this but thought a lovely old styler may be my best bet. I have a 100% silk expensive scarf that I managed to drop stuff on on friday:( It says dry clean only but I really don't think a dry clean will take the stain out. Can I hand wash it? What would be the best way to do it without wrecking my…

Going back to work
How do you organise yourself when it comes to housework and stuff? I'm going back to work Mon-Fri. I really don't want to spend all weekend tidying but neither do I want to do it after work/the kids are in bed. We get groceries delivered once a week so that's taken care of. I'm thinking that I'll have to put a wash on…
