This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all, can't believe its September already! Can't wait til the kids go back. House is a huge mess, but as soon as they go back I will be in full whirlwind mode.
Had a garage sale yesterday and sold almost £40 of things! Yippee!! Made chicken stir fry last night, but spent £20 on some shelves for more storage! Lunch today will be packet rice and dinner will be a pasta bake or something gentle. Ds 1 wants to go swimming, and I have a free family ticket - result. Loads of washing to be done as its a good drying day. Ds2 in school Tuesday and ds1 on Wednesday. Have day out planned on Thursday, so lots to do before then!!
Haven't been here for a while but need some new ways to save money - doing all the normal things but wondered if there are things I'm missing. ThanksMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

Good morning everyone
Am debating whether to put washing out, it's grey but quite breezy. I think I will give it a go.
GDD stayed last night to give DD a break and for us to take her school shoe shopping today. She wants Kickers so it's not going to be cheap but she had some last year and they did last the whole school year when previously she has been known to go through a couple of cheaper pairs per term!
Seem to be spending far too much money recently but have been trying to help DD and GDD out and DD had had a lot of expense from hospital trips and other things associated with her injury. Need to do budget for the month tonight and I don't think it's going to be pretty.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or just wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super dayLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Morning, hoping for a NSD today, after a mega spend day yesterday (had to replace the TV, but at least I used my Clubcard vouchers, used a special Tesco-TV voucher, bought through Quidco & used a cash back credit card).
Also got some bargains at Waitrose - 3 big chickens for £10, 2 big bottles of fairy liquid for £2 & 3 slices of Brie marked down to half price, despite having 8 days left on their sell by day!0 -

Morning all!
Esmf - There's a thread I saw yesterday where someone has started a list of OS/MSE things to try (like using the library, saving £1 coins etc) and I think you might find it helpful.
Had a rotten day yesterday. The only pointy thing I did was walk up to M&D's to water my seedlings/seeds. I now have two varieties os spinach growing and I've started talking to them - madness beckons!
Not feeling very well today - hangover from spending most of yesterday in bed and needing a sleeping pill last night. Bipolar + hormones = unhappy Laura. Today I shall go and tend my seeds and that's about it, I think. I have knitting and a good book to read and am probably best staying quietly at home till I feel normal - hopefully only a few days.
Hope everyone's feeling better than I am todayHousehold: Laura + William-cat

Hi all
Hoping for a quiet day in the house today. Need to do a couple of loads of washing and some general tidying up.
Did the Aldi and Asda shop yesterday, so that's all put away.
BF is cooking tea tonight - Nando's chicken with chips and I'm going to make my own version of their macho peas!
Back to work tomorrow, got a full week in so hopefully I can get a good headway with the month's work...
Not feeling too great today, woke up with a headache so I will try and take it easy. BF wants to go to the cinema, but it's so expensive.
Hope you all have a good day!the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -
Hi all, a serial lurker here. Today is very MSE i think - first of all we are going to our allotment for a good tidy and hopefully some lovely veg.
Then making slow cooker apple & rosemary jelly from some free apples - we were out walking and someone had left bags of them outside with a "help yourself" note. I want to leave them some jelly but we are not sure which road it was. Only had to buy the sugar as the herbs are in the garden.
Also making tarte tatin using Ald! SS figs and pastry from freezer.
dinner is lasagne using bolognese sauce from freezer. We'll need to spend the last £ of August budget on milk for the white sauce. Our September grocery budget doesn't start till Saturday but have everything in for this week's meal plan. Will also make a lemon sponge from what we have in.
Sounds a lot when I write it down but it should be fun.
My Sundays aren't always this busy but wanted to post today as 90% of the above would not have been possible without the great tips, ideas and enthusiasm of the people on this board.
This one and the DFW board have changed my life in the last 10 months and I thank every one of you. I'm not good at putting smilies etc in the text so here are a few. They might not turn out right but the smiley ones are for you guys, the sad one is because of not knowing where to take the jelly and the shocker is the £17781 CC debt I had 10 months ago. DFD Christmas Eve 2013. The angel is my dear partner who is so on board and supporting me all the way to DFD. Actually I can't get the smilies to work but the thought is there.
Thank you all, I think I better get up and get started! SL. XMFIT -T5 #420 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x
Cloudy and overcast here this morning.
DH now in the bath after bringing me a cuppa.
DH and DS1 are going out this morning to our friends to collect a roof box we've bought from them, collect the keys for his work van and take some stuff back to the caravan. So hopefully we'll get some more jobs done. I didn't really get anything achieved yesterday - just couldn't settle to anything and had a good while on pc and just chilling - so this morning whilst menfolk are doing out I'm hoping to do some baking/cooking - I didn't even get that done yesterday so really need to make something!
Dinner last night was a cheeky takeaway as DH and DS1 were late finishing work so the job (moving a wardrobe for my sis from 1 property to another) was done much later, so we finished up having a quick cuppa with them before we left and then came home, I was about to start cooking and DH said not to bother, why don't we have takeaway and have for Sunday lunch what we should have had for dinner Saturday night - didn't need asking twice! Today's lunch will be gammon steaks, eggs, onion sauce, mash, peas, carrots and cauli. Will endeavour to put together a menu plan together as this helps so much with stopping mid week top ups that cost £15+ or more. I find that really adds to the cost of the weekly shop so need to try to stay away from SM.
The plan of action today is to get a shower, brekkie, then tackle the small pile of ironing, do some baking/cooking and then menu plan. May shove the hoover round too.
Have a restful Sunday x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all,
Welcome to returners and newbies:hello:
I'm up early as my DIL is having her baby shower today and I did a little face time message so I could see what was going on. It looked like lots of fun:D my DSIL wanted to make sure I wasn't left out. It's really difficult being so far away at times like this. Our new baby girl is due on 7th October:j
We spent all day painting yesterday. I did the radiators and skirting boards and hubby did the ceilings and coving. Very pleased by how much we got done although we are both aching this morning.
This morning dh has promised DIL to be a golf lesson. We will probably have a quick lunch with them and then back to paint the walls. The colour is called Antique lace, basically a shade of cream lol. Then finally the two feature walls can be painted and we can put everything back. I can't wait to put my new curtains up.
Dinner will be something very quick and easy.
DS enjoyed work yesterday. He is working the next three Sundays and then he will do Saturday and Sunday after that. He loved it and said he looked a bobby dazzler in his outfit !
I've got blooming tooth ache again. Dh thinks I fancy the dentist. Back for an emergency appointment tomorrow.
Have a great day all J xStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.

Morning all
Fish fed & hubby & I have had breakfast and a cuppa each.
I feel weaker today than yesterday but hopefully I'll feel better in a while.
It's chilly this morning but dry & bright, maybe it will warm up, I need to get my toweling robe dry, it's been on the line for 2 days, it was a 40th b'day present from my kids and I'm 62 this year so it's doing well.
No real plans for today, hubby will potter in the garden & I'll do a couple of small jobs and take it easy.
Hugs to LW, and thinking of you Molly and sending you positive vibes.
Have a good day everyone
