  • Hello everyone
I haven't been on here for a while as DH had to retire due to ill health so he does all finances and with his lump sum we became debt free overnight! That was all 3 years ago so I probably haven't been on in all that time. Anyway now thinking about going back to school tomorrow and leaving DH at home I think I need something to stimulate him into doing some useful jobs around the house. He has limited mobility and use of one hand is limited so there are things he just cant do but he can do general tidying etc. Oh and he cooks!!! Thought would look out the Flylady thread but it obviously doesnt start until tomorrow so will try again then. Good to be back.

    Afternoon All,

Helenjelly - so sorry to hear about OH's health, big positive thoughts about tumour being benign. :grouphug:

Big Hi to newbies and welcome back to returners.

Well done to all the DIYers, sit back and enjoy your results! :T

Well I have the big "60" this month and I retire at the end of it, so quite an important landmark in my life after 40 plus years in the one job.
To beat the onset of hibernation we are taking our retirement holiday a month early. On Tuesday we fly to Calgary. We will be having an "Ice Explorer" adventure over glaciers, followed by two days on the Rocky Mountaineer train through The Rockies ending up in Vancouver. From there we will be doing a 7 day cruise to Alaska before returning home. It is an 18 day trip of a lifetime, which we want to undertake while we both have the health to do it. To see all the wild animals (grizzly bears, elk, moose, bald eagles etc) in their natural surroundings is certainly on my "bucket list."
So today and tomorrow will be spent packing leisurely and then panic on Tuesday morning thinking what we haven't packed! :rotfl:

Will do my best to check in using our iPad every now and again.

Will be passing the hat round when I get back to see us through to the end of September! :D

Have a lovely day everyone
  • Helen jelly sending positive vibes your way.
Well hubby started cooking lunch and got a panic stricken phone call, the schools been left unlocked, no idea how long for, no idea who should have locked up as no-one works on Sunday. Hubby has had to walk there, search the buildings in case someone is lying injured. Maybe someone made arrangements and forgotten them. I've made myself a piece of toast to tide me over as lunch will now be late.
Also I'm after some advice, I'm having problems in bed, (no not that sort) we have a very firm mattress and I'm in pain from lying on it. Would a tempur topper help, I don't want to waste money, but we could afford one if it would help, anyone have any experience of them.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning everyone

I've not been on for a while - DH has been told he has a tumour [between Kidney and Bladder] we are waiting for a date for a procedure to tell us if its cancerous or not, he is in extreme amounts of pain and taking alot of Morphine which is either knocking him out or making hi stay up all night, either way its not good, add on the school hols and its been quite a rough time here :[

Anyhoo ....... its time to et back into some kind of routine now, our home is definitely gross and we [kids and myself] need to stop staying up late and getting up late! So its housework time, the hoover will have a fit at having to start up lol

Hope everyone is well, hugs for those that aren't

    Helen :]

Im so sorry to hear this. re the morphine is he just on liquid (oramorph) or tablets aswell? if hes going to be in pain for a while it might be worth asking to see a pain specialist.
I really hope you get some answers and huge huge hugs.
Hi to everyone - I havent been on much myself been having a bad time with pain myself and the doctor wanted to up my morphine but I refused. My kidney and lung are still in agony nearly 3 years since the last op.
I went to a ankle specialist on Wed - I had a 6 inch extra bone fuse for 2 years to every bone in my foot 13 years ago and it removed after 2 years in plaster to stop the spasms etc...Iv been having the same cracking swelling pain etc. Got to the hospital and the consultants nurse said it was more serious than they thought so Im seeing a different specialist the 16th Sept.
Os wise - Been baking Hm quiche, JJs herby cheese bread and Hm pizza and Hm garlic breads. Looking for recipes. Chicken roast for dinner which the OH is doing. Hm scones and might make a apple pie with custard for afters.
We are just waiting to move to a new flat...its in our old flats we used to live in and loved (moved because of stairs) this is ground floor 30 seconds away and at the end of the road to Crosby Beach. Fab for the dog and the kitchen is massive. Ours now is tiny.
Sorry to babble. Hugs and love to those in need and I hope you are having a nice Sunday. Rach xxx :)

Hester, I've not used a tempur topper but have used an 'egg box' style topper - less expensive and very good for padding me where needed.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

I often get the urge to be creative, at this time of year especially. I had a very busy day providing lunch at home to my visiting family yesterday, had a dreadful night's sleep due to bleeping smoke alarm (batteries) and had a lie in as a result. So, off to a late start I contemplated what I could do with my day. A couple of days ago I made a table runner and 8 placemats out of the leftover curtain fabric I had. Really wanted to make something today but didn't want to go out and spend any money. Found a few scraps of the fabric that I had and spent the afternoon making a pair of hanging hearts to hang from my patio doors. A great sense of achievement and no money spent. This has now made me think about what else I can do with what I already have, or at a pinch, what I can get cheap from charity shops.

So my September is starting on a positive and thrifty note.

If you have an old or spare duvet put it under your bottom sheet and that might help cushion you and be a bit more comfy.

Sending positive vibes and hoping things are benign or as near to it as possible.

DH is healing well and better able to chew and enjoy meals after having facial op. Made lemon and garlic chicken, small yorkies, home grown runner beans and carrots with gravy and stuffing balls for lunch.

Used chicken carcass to make stock, added veg and pasta to make a thick and chunky "potage" which everyone enjoyed with home made rolls tonight.

We have a few weeks to let skin graft heal then he needs radiotherapy so practising lots of soups and soft dishes that will be easy to eat for him and really want to build him up.

    Monnagran

Take care of yourselves and hope things improve for you both.
    Fingers crossed!

Went with dds to see "Hairspray" in Leeds and had a great time . Might try to find something DH would enjoy to take his mind off things a bit.

    Hugs to all

Nothing exciting going on here....am mad jealous of your trip NAR, we don't seem to be able to afford to go anywhere this year. Enjoy.
