RCD on garage freezer or not RCD?

I've always had an RCD plug on my garage freezer but due to some new builds going up by us, we've been having a few power cuts over the last few months, nothing too long lasting, just a couple of hours at a time. It's meant I've had to go out to the garage and reset the trip so the plug goes back on. Got me thinking, it is a good idea to have an RCD on a garage freezer? If the power goes out while we're on holiday then the food inside will be lost. OH not bothered, says that's what insurance is for and better to have the RCD on. What do other folks think/do? Is there a good argument for having an RCD on this?

No. Remove the rcd.0

We live in a new house and whilst on holiday the power tripped and we came back to a defrosted freezer and fridge. Lost £285 of food and rang the insurance company who said the maximum we could claim for was £200 and it wasn't worth claiming as we'd have to pay an excess and then our insurance would go up.0

Why do you have an RCD on a freezer? I thought they were more for using with lawnmowers etc, so that if a cable got cut while you're using it, it would stop the electric and risk of electrocution.
Can't see why you'd use one on a freezer.0 -
Nope, can't see why you would want one on a freezer either.
The only possible reason I can think of is if your garage is liable to flooding, in which case you wouldn't put the freezer in there in the first place.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
