Good Freezable Meals
Can anyone recommend good meals that can be batched, frozen, then microwaved or oven cooked at a later date? Im a runner so I eat a lot of pasta. Presumably spag bol is the obvious one. Is it a case of letting it cool down in the pot, then freezing. Do I simply defrost in the fridge the night before then microwave for 5/6…

Paint stain - any ideas?
I hope someone can help me (if this is the right thread, if not, apologies). I managed to get a large drop of paint on my very favourite jersey. I didn't notice until it was dry. Is there any way I can get rid of this mark, it's right on the back of the jersey (rather like a bulls-eye)! I hope someone has some suggestions…

Defrosting "frost free" fridge freezer so as not to ruin oak floor
I have a 6 year old Hoover frost free fridge freezer which now has total snow in the freezer compartment and a big block of ice in the fridge. It's semi built-in, in a space where an integrated FF used to be (which went wrong and landlord didn't replace with integrated, due to cost). The unit it's standing in is partially…

3 days till pay day....
.... And determined not to spend a penny!! Am ok for dinners, and at a push, lunches (thank goodness for the cheap Campbell's soup at b&m!) It's just breakfast.. Just used the last of the cereal this morning, and there's just a few slices of bread left in the freezer. My friend gave me the idea of making some scones for…

HELP - Measuring INSTEAD of Weighing (puds)
Many years ago I used to have a couple of really idiot-proof recipes where the ingredients were measured by volume instead of weight, for sponge cake & sponge pud - both microwave. I remember the cake one used fruit yoghurt and the yogurt tub to measure other ingredients. I`ve parted company with kitchen scales ages ago,…

Tetrapaks for freezer moulds
Over the last couple of years some things that have normally been sold in tins are available in tetrapaks (chick peas and tomatoes are the ones I've bought). The 400g paks make ideal freezer moulds (with a freezer food bag inside) for freezing individual portions of bulk cooked chilli/bolognaise/curry etc so that you…

If It Wasn't Meat, What Did They Eat?
I was reading recently that we all eat too much meat and that back in the Olden Days meat was such a luxury that families could only afford a chicken on Sundays. It set me wondering what people ate instead. What was the daily menu? Would it be any good going back to it? I grew up in the late 1960s, early 1970s and meat was…

Birthday banana cake help
I have been asked to make a birthday cake for my soon-to-be 3 year old granddaughter's birthday party. I thought I would make a banana cake as it is liked by everyone and it should freeze well. Do you think it would be OK to add chocolate drops to the mixture to give the cake a bit of a WOW factor? My daughter in law will…

Basic cooking
Afternoon lovely people, I’m looking for a little bit of a steer on basic cooking. In short my question is what would you expect / assume most people would be able to make? To give a bit of context, my living situation will change in the next six months when I move in with my boyfriend. I’ve only ever lived in ‘fend for…

Are there any vegetarians here?
I'm trying a meat/fish free diet and I was wondering if you could tell me what sort of things you would eat for a weeks worth of dinners? I had pasta with tomato sauce on Friday, jacket spud on sat and a lentil lasagne on Sunday. I'm happy to eat these kind of meals, but I wouldn't want to have them more than once in a…

Buttermilk, discard after 12hours?
Hi We have recently changed brands of buttermilk, now using a European brand from tesco 1l for £1 so quite good value, have just noticed on the side of the carton that it says to discard within 12 hours of opening, have checked on tescos website and it confirms this. Surely that can't be right? Hasn't done us any harm so…

Fingermarks on kitchen cupboards
Hi everyone, I have recently had a new kitchen installed which I'm very happy with. However, my only niggle is the fingermarks which are all over laminated doors. I've tried all sorts to remove them but nothing seems to be working. Any ideas on what I could use please? :)

As ever feel free to pick and mix what needs doing for you according to your ability…
