Buttermilk, discard after 12hours?

Hi
We have recently changed brands of buttermilk, now using a European brand from tesco 1l for £1 so quite good value, have just noticed on the side of the carton that it says to discard within 12 hours of opening, have checked on tescos website and it confirms this. Surely that can't be right? Hasn't done us any harm so far, if the consensus is that this can't be right how long before I should throw it away?

It only lasts a couple days. Buy smaller containers and freeze some of it if you can't use it straight away. Yes I know it says DO NOT FREEZE...but I would ignore it and freeze it anyway they are just trying to protect themselves as when the product defrosts it will separate and not look right....a bit of whisking will fix that.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I agree. Separate and freeze especially if you're using it for baking. It'll still do the same job.
Mind you, if you're just baking with it, just make your own with either lemon juice, or some natural yoghurt to curdle it. That's what I do now unless I've got some from making butter.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...
