Magazine for sewing?

Hi guys,
I am thinking that this is probably the most relevant board for my question.. if not please feel free to move it.

Is there in the UK a publication for sewing fans? Just sewing. I looked at Tescos yesterday and I found several just for knitting, some for handwork or homemade, cardmaking, but nothing for just sewing.

In central Europe we have Burda magazine, which has sewing tips and lot of patterns of new fashion for enthusiast to use to cut down on work, but there doesn't seem to be one in the UK?
Is there anything similar? Anything specialising in sewing work (not stitching, knitting etc, I actually want to sew clothes).

Thank you

You can get Burda and Vogue magazines in the UK. There's also Sewing World.

Vogue? I've never seen one called that about sewing? Just the fashion glossy magazine?
I've never seen Burda in the shop! Is it monthly? Perhaps I didn't see it yesterday because it's just before new issue...
Thank you, I will google Sewing World.

The Vogue one is called Sew Today - it features Butterick, Kwik Sew, McCall and Vogue. I'm not sure whether it has patterns in it - it possibly just features what's new in their pattern range. I just know I've seen it around.
  • If you want to see them in person before subscribing, WH Smiths has a section of magazines for crafts. I know I've seen several there, but I don't remember any names. That way you would know if it has exactly the sorts of things you want.
  • Buying Sew Today over the counter lets you phone/send off for Vogue/McCalls/Butterick/Kwik Sew patterns with a 10% discount. If you subscribe you can get the patterns at a 50% discount - worth having as some Vogue patterns are 14.75 each retail. The magazine catalogues some of their new pattern releases plus some technique articles. I subscribe, but its always been on the shelves in WHSmith. Most branches of WHS round here carry Burda too. If you want a magazine on garment sewing techniques, the best IMHO is an American publication called Threads, from Taunton Press - 6 issues a year. I've seen it in bigger whs branches, but it seems to sell out quickly - 6 issues a year. There are UK sellers online and via eb*y, or you can subscribe direct with the publisher. Maybe available electronically too nowadays. Taunton also have a title called Sew Stylish, again seen this in larger whs. Aimed more at younger/newer sewers from what I've seen. The Threads website is very informative too, and will give you an idea of both the magazines content. HTH.

Can you get your mag through Tesco clubcard points? for free?
I did that with a knitting mag. I wish I had not bothered though!
It is full of adds and a few difficult patterns.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

There's one called Sew Hip if it's not been stopped, been a while since I bought it, but it had all sorts of sewing projects in for beginners upwards. I used to buy it in WH Smith, don't think other shops stocked it.
