Do you cut the labels off?
I had one of these weird conversations with my sister yesterday, about cutting the labels off clothes. I almost never do this unless the label is scratching or irritating or showing through the garment, my sister cuts the label off every single garment almost as soon as she buys them. She says that it's best to cut the…

sc cockaleekie soup recipe?
I've got 3 leeks to use up, and I wanted to make some soup. The kids don't like leek and potato soup (I don't mind it, but couldn't eat a whole family's worth!), but I've some chicken portions in the freezer so I thought I'd make some cockaleekie tomorrow and see if they like that. But I want to do it in the slow cooker…

It's for me, my husband and 5 year old. I have chicken breasts, unsmoked streaky bacon, courgettes, mushrooms, a butternut squash. I have most general…

Flora Cuisine-Waste of money
I bought a bottle of this last month &,after using it,I've found it's a waste of time & money. It doesn't go clear like it says on the advert &if you use it to fry eggs, you end up with a horrid sort of scummy brown mess in the frying pan! Whereas if I use oil to fry the eggs (The only thing I fry apart from stir fry veg) I…

How to cook like Heston
Did anyone else watch this - I thought it was really interesting and I think I'll definitely try some of his tips. I think that serving the chilli with the woodchips was a step too far though.

Spice mixture recipes
Are there any good, simple, recommendations for spice mixtures that can jazz up simple food such as stews? Curry power is the classic example, and will give a wide variety of otherwise simple and thrown together meals a rich distinctive flavour. But, what are other mixes of spices that work well in savoury dishes?…

Glass storage jars - seal/gasket required
Hi, we have some storage jars like this: http://69.94.30.225/store/media/Jar-Blue-Vert.JPG However, the rubber seal, which i believe is called a gasket, has become a bit yuk and needs replacing. Does anyone know of anywhere these can be bought cheaply i.e. not more than the jars cost themselves in the first place?

Cast iron skillets
I've wanted one of these for cooking, but not sure where to source one from. I've tried freecycle with no luck, and I've looked on ebay etc but there's so many that are very cheap and I don't want to buy something that won't last, although I'm not sure what sort of quality I'm looking out for if that makes sense. Can any…

MSE version of Dolmio sauce jars?
Bologneses and chillis make quite a staple part of our diet and we tend to buy the Dolmio sauces - but aware that this is probably an expensive way to do it. My first (and last!) attempt to make my own bolognese sauce, from a recipe claiming to be fantastic, resulted in such a bland tasting bolognese that OH drove out to…

Porous bathroom tiles? OS cleaning tips?
Hello! Been a bit since we've been able to get online as we've moved house! It's nice to be back! Our new home has porous tiles in the bathroom (although not ones made of expensive materials - these looks like bog standard modern screen-printed tiles but without the finish). They are stained with dark patches of dirt,…
