Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 6th January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Hugs to Bramble, Meanmarie, Beth, Lou, LW, Taplady.
Still windy here, last night I spent 20 minutes picking up rubbish from the garden. The kids were high as kites at work, the wind always affects them. DGS has nits, DD is beside herself, he is sitting beside someone who is riddled with them & who's mother is unaware/unintrested.
Last day for hubby travelling to Basingstoke today, so we have less to worry about if the car has problems.
DS is changing jobs next week, he's been in his current job for 7 years, he too was getting tired of the traveling & has a new job on his doorstep.
SIL has passed his first college exam, not sure how as he's claimed to be too ill to attend, but I'm just nodding & smiling, I hope he gets work soon.
Time for my porridge & a cuppa.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning!
I am still here... so is Roo!
Saw the midwife yesterday, Roo is still engaged but is spine to spine which will not be helping to start labour... she says I am sitting back too much! But if I sit upright I get dizzy and faint...! So it's a catch-22!!! I am supposed to have my cervical sweep done on the 19th... but I begged and it's booked for the 12th! If it works then it'll be within 24-48 hours
But that weekend is the worst because it's the one weekend the person who is planning on have DS isn't there! So I have made arrangements Just in Case! And I have two appointments with the water board on the 13th! I think if I cancel them now then Roo won't come! So I am keeping them! HAHA!!
Today I have the morning school run (Joy!) and DS is serving at the Epithiny Church Service tonight (12th day of Christmas)! I can't go because they will be using incense at the service!!! Poor DS has to strip and jump in the shower as soon as he get's in and the clothes get washed right away because it STINKS! He is Boat Boy so carries the unlit incense which means he is right next to the person with the incence! The smell gives me an instant migrain! YUK!
OS Wise I have spent days re-sorting my finances to make them easier to manage and set myself some saving goals. I have also done a 4 week meal plan and I am working on a 'monthly' shop and 4 weekly shopping lists. I haven't done this since I fell sick 8 months ago, and we have been living a lot on my bulk buys... but now my freezer/cupboard and stores are empty, money is tight due to my cravings and we keep running out of things and not having money to buy them! So on the 19th January DH will do a hugh shop to set us up with everything we need for a month! I am feeling much more organised (and I have shopping lists for after Roo so I won't have the stress of doing it with a new baby)!
I am planning on making lots of meals which stretch and take minimum time to prep (harder meals at the weekend when DH can help) as I have no got a freezer full of meals ready! I really fancy Butternut Squash Soup and HM Rolls... so I can't wait!
Anyway, I go on....
HH Ref. Nits! DS had that problem at Nursery, disgusting that some people don't care. Once you treat it have his hair washed with 'Tea Tree Shampoo' (65p from MrT last time I bought it!) at LEAST once a week! It actually STOPS the nits going near your DGS. I did this for over a year with my DS after he caught nits 3 times!!!... then I ran out of shampoo and forgot to replace it... next thing I know DS had nits again! So we started using it again and... nothing! His class seems to have them 2-3 times a year! He's 9 and I have been using it since he was 2! So it's OS and Frugal and it worksWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
So much sadness and loss around at the moment.
Hugs hugs to Taplady, Beth, Meanmarie and Bramble xxxx.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning all
Soooooo tired this morning, after only two days back at work! Hester, kids at my school have been absolutely manic, too; more interested in swapping lists of Christmas presents than doing any work. I was shocked with my form yesterday afternoon when I was unable to get through a single sentence without them chatting away...and normally they're so good! It doesn't help that we had Senior Presentation Evening last night (GCSE certificates, A Level certificates and prizes being given out)...it was TWO HOURS LONG and the most boring thing everI'm shattered but it's almost the weekend!
Hope everyone has a good Friday - not long to go now!

Morning all,
Marie, hope today goes as well as it can xx
Bramble, safe journey, and I hope Monday goes as well as it can too x
Off to work today, this week has flown by, and I was expecting it to drag its heels, its been so busy, the week has flown.
Not sure whats for dinner, will have to check my list, and rummage in the freezer.
Will nip in and see my dad after work today, have not been able to go since monday, and I miss him, even though he sometimes doesn't know who I am.
Ok better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone
Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Much less windy here this morning, and dry at the moment. DH up and off to work early but not stupid early so he brought me a nice cuppa in bed before he left.
Dinner last night was lovely gammon steaks, egg, onion and chive sauce, mashed potatoes, peas and mushrooms - yummy a firm family favourite in this house. Tonight will be fry-up, not very healthy but I have things that need using up.
Spent most of the day yesterday washing, drying and ironing, and also organising fencing companies to come and quote for work, have managed to find a company that can start on Tuesday next week, I was only lucky with them because it's a family company and their daughter who has emigrated had been home for 5 weeks over Xmas and the guy had taken to the airport to go early hours of yesterday morning - hence he hadn't booked any jobs for yesterday and was able to visit and quote - it is a lot of money but all 3 companies were round about the same price - it came down to who could start asap! Have spoken to neighbour and they were fine with my plans, (if they weren't they didn't say anything!!) maybe cos I just told them straight no messing, I wasn't nasty or anything but the job needs doing! So will be much happier once all the work is done and I'm happy with the job.
Have all the normal chores to do today and boys back to school today too - have to say I'm somewhat relieved, they were getting bored and cabin fever had set in - we do go out and about but nice to get back to some normality.
Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

Morning all.
Clear here today and the wind has died down at last. Dog walked breakfast de-cluttered and now ready to go to school. Friday at last. House is beginning to look messy as I've been too tired in the evenings to do anything, will try a quick swish and swipe tonight instead of sitting on the sofa and nodding off!!!!!! Freezer surprise for tea I think.
Hugs to all those who need them. Have a good day everyone.:)£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund
Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.

Good Morning All
Didn't catch up with the thread yesterday so please take a (((hug))) if you need one.
Have already done the essential paperwork this morning so can use the rest of the day to concentrate on the house and pop to Tesco - didn't manage to get their yesterday as had to go out for the afternoon for work.
Wind appears to have died down but its very cold today. Housework will keep me warm though
No idea what is for dinner tonight, will have a route around in the freezer but thats in the garage so it can wait a little while.
Off now to make sure DS makes his school bus, have a good day.x0 -
Morning :hello:
I've lost my job. First I wasthen some friends listened to me while I moaned and bitched, and now I'm like this :j lol.
My mum and dad have sold their house, they're moving to a smaller place so have lots of things to get rid of. I've claimed some cane furniture, we're going round to pick it up today. It'll be nice to sit on decent chairs in the garden in summer, rather than my very old, clean-but-stained plastic thingsWhile they were sorting, they've come across lots of bits and pieces so they've piled it up in one room for me to rummage through.
I'll pick the last of the sprouts today, then the chickens can be let loose on the veg patch. They do a great job of weeding and digging, and it saves me from doing it. Actually they probably do a better job than me
We need to nip to Morrisons later, then we'll cook some comfort food (not sure what yet) and watch a film. One of the Harry Potter films, if I get my way, lol.Bulletproof0
