Flora Cuisine-Waste of money

Options
I bought a bottle of this last month &,after using it,I've found it's a waste of time & money.
It doesn't go clear like it says on the advert &if you use it to fry eggs, you end up with a horrid sort of scummy brown mess in the frying pan!
Whereas if I use oil to fry the eggs (The only thing I fry apart from stir fry veg) I can decant the oil into a cup & reuse it the next time I fry eggs, you cant with this & you end up using a lot more than you would think.
Better to put the £1.73 cost towards a good bottle of olive oil...

I've never used it myself, infact I'm not exactly sure what it is. Is it a spray oil?

I just use whichever vegetable oil is the cheapest when I want some. Use for frying eggs and drissling over potatoes for roasting.

Did you keep the receipt? I keep hearing ads on the radio saying "fluffy potatoes or your money back" so maybe you could get a refund?
  • Isn't the real benefit that its lower in cholesterol than other oils/fats etc so its better for you....??

I agree its not nice to fry eggs with but I persevere with it because of this

No,it's sort of a melted butter like stuff in consistency & looks & goes clear (or meant to) when heated up.I'm using an electric hob so maybe mine doesn't reach as high a temperature that's needed to cook things with it.

Oh I see, thanks, I was thinking lo-cal spray I think. I don't use that either so no idea why.
  • When I first saw the TV advert for this product, I sat feeling slightly annoyed, as Unilever seem to have 'invented' a product to fit a market gap they have suggested exists. Olive oil, as a plant oil, contains NO cholesterol naturally. Flora Cuisine gives the impression, with some pseudo-science, that it is the ONLY oil type product low in cholesterol. Good olive oil is, dare I say 'unmessed about with' which cannot be said for the hydrogenated vegetable fats and oils that line supermarket shelves, all trying to promote the fact they're somehow more wholesome than oilive oil or butter. Look at all the margarine/spread type products that the above named company also manufacture - all trying to claim healthy credentials and to give the impression they're somehow 'better' than butter. Makes me laugh when I point out to friends that all these spreads (except the low fat products) contain the same amount of fat as butter. Why not eat butter (spread it thinly) and enjoy it?! (A member of the family worked for aforementioned company all his life and was perfectly happy to describe how and why margarine was 'invented' and marketed.)

shocking, they don't know what else to invent to rip us off!
How can this be healthier than using other types of oil?
It's a highly processed product, with all sort of chemicals in it!
    Ingredients

Vegetable Oils (Sunflower Seed Oil, Rapeseed Oil, Linseed Oil), Water, Salt (0.9%), Emulsifiers (Soy Bean Lecithin, Polysorbate 60), Soy Protein, Stabilisers (Guar and Xanthan Gums), Colour (Beta-Carotene), Preservative (Potassium Sorbate), Citric Acid, Flavourings, Vitamins (A, D).

It really makes me angry when they try and get people to switch from more natural, cheaper products to this crxp.
I bet that soon they will have to drop some of they claims about being healthier than olive oil, because it's simply not true, but lots of people will have bought into that.

You can fry eggs in most vegetable oils but not olive oil, nor can you really do most cooking with olive oil as it cant get hot enough for it so food suck it up and get greasy from it.

I got some of this for 80p or so on special offer and it did stop my husband from frying foods so it did what I wanted it to do but only because its just not nice is any way.

I switched to olive oil for frying and all cooking including frying eggs about a year ago. Haven't noticed any difference and consider it better for us than than veg oil. I use it for everything :)
