Hello people, (Firstly, if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move - I just come on the OS site a lot as I care about food and cost etc) How much have you ever thought about where your mushrooms come from? OH and I are thinking of setting up a bit of a commercial mushroom farm as we think there is a gap in the market…

Ideas for storing large amounts of spices
Now that the OH and I have become OS and started making our own curries, rather than ordering take aways, we have discovered a local Asian shop that sells herbs and spices at really cheap prices, but in larger than usual packs. The box that I used to keep all the supermarket size jars in has now overflowed, and I need to…

Your wise words...

I am grieving but starting to push on with life and get my moneysaving lifestyle back on track. I let myself have the odd treat to try and bring…

Cookworks 6.5L Slow Cooker - cooking too fast !!
Hi All Having read glowing reviews, I recently purchased a Cookworks 6.5L Slow Cooker from Argos (£21.99) - and I'm struggling with it. I am using it for the third time, and yet again, it seems to be cooking too fast (using the LOW) setting. For all my recipes I have pre-browned ingredients and used hot liquid as…

suet pud (savoury) cooking time
I've got a mushroom suet pudding steaming away happily at the moment. It's been on for about 2 hours and the pastry at the top looks like it's done already ! Does anyone have an idea how long a pud should take to steam given that the filling is already cooked inside? TIA

Food Economics and Recipies Thread
I don't know how long/whether this will last but it's worth a shot. I'll start with a tip. To make a good ratatouille: 1. Add the aubergine first as it takes longer to cook than the other stuff. Only cook for 15-20mins once the courgette and toms are in and add the (grilled & skinned) peppers right at the end. 2. A proper…

Three bean salad
I don't like pulses at all. However I am aware how good for you they are and want to give my family them. Tesco do tins of three bean salad, but they say you have to cook it. However they do lunch dishes of 3 bean salad in vinagrette. Do you have to cook the tins and let them cool then serve or not. What do you recommend…

Chicken and Rice Recipe
Morning, My mother used to have a recipe where you put so much rice in an oven proof dish, chucked something else in (lemons or garlic maybe?) put some liquid in (wine or stock), placed chicken thighs on top. Put it in the oven for so long and it all came out cooked to perfection! She has since chucked this recipe out! I…

Attempting to make Chicken & Leek Risotto tomorrow (1st time):D It's a bit of a "clart" (which is why I've not done it before) but I love risotto so not really a good excuse!;) Anyway, I'm bound to have some left over so ... can I reheat it?
