Hi All
Having read glowing reviews, I recently purchased a Cookworks 6.5L Slow Cooker from Argos (£21.99) - and I'm struggling with it. I am using it for the third time, and yet again, it seems to be cooking too fast (using the LOW) setting. For all my recipes I have pre-browned ingredients and used hot liquid as recommended in the Manual, but everything seems to be taking less than half the time recommended. I have noticed that the lid does not fit snuggly, and I'm wondering if this could be the problem, also the outside surface seems to get really hot and within the ceramic bowl the liquid bubbles within minutes !! - I want to persevere, so any advice appreciated before I take it back to Argos for a "better" model. Happy to pay more for a "SLOW" cooker and happy to receive your recommendations for a Large Slow Cooker which cooks - sloooooowly.
Thanks
Monica

I know mine does cook much quicker if I use hot liquid and if I turn it on for a while before I want to use it. Maybe use cold liquid to start?
I think the badly fitting lid would just let the liquid evaporate too quickly, so it would dry out much too fast.
BTW, I cooked a chicken and green lentil stew in mine today and it was done in about 3.5 hrs using hot water to start, but without browning anything. It suits me sometimes, but I can see the problem if you want to go out and leave it.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

this is an older thread discussing the same thing
I think there's another thread but i just can't put my finger on it. Pink?? Any ideas?
Ill merge this later. Really i would take it back if its too hot - you can't really get round that if it's on the lowest setting
ZipA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
