white vinegar & bathroom silicon-will it damage?

Hello
Apologies if this isn't the correct place to post this but i'm after some advice regarding using white vinegar as a cleaning product.
I've just discovered the wonders of using WV to clean limescale in the bathroom (taps). However, i was wondering if it's possible to use it to clean round the top edge of the bath or will it destroy the silicon seal between the bath & the tiles?
Thanks in advance :)

It will be fine and won't do any harm at all. :)

To be honest I don't know, because I recently got into trouble with DH about the silicone coming away from the shower and he thinks it's a combination of me scrubbing and the use of vinegar which is an acid eating into the silicone. I have now been told (after it has just all been replaced a couple of weeks ago) that I can only use the CIF mousse to stop me from tampering/wiping/touching with the silicone.

Black mould and mildew got into our white silicone and DH seems to be of the opinion that it kind of rotted away slowly to allow the water to get in behind it to form mould!

I still use vinegar on all of my taps and around the basin just I have to keep it off the silicone now!

  • Thank you both for the replies. I'm off to blitz the house with white vinegar now :)
  • Actually I use vinegar to loosen the last little bits of silicone when I reseal the shower cubicle etc.
I was always under the impression that vinegar would soften silicone.
I soak kitchen towel in it and pad it it around the silicone to allow it to soften it and it scrapes away easier.
I'd never use vinegar any where near silicone products that I did'nt want damaged.
