Making a blanket - help please!

I would like to make a cot bed blanket, I would like to have one side in my chosen cotton material and the back in fleece and have a satin border (tall order for a first timer!) Does anyone have any online instructions they can point me to? I am unsure if I…

A question for quilters
I'm starting my first quilt out of scrap fabric. I'm going for a simple design, 6 inch squares surrounded by a white border. I bought a rotary cutter and self healing mat which is great but I am struggling to cut the squares out accurately! I'm using a template and it sometimes shifts slightly. Most of my squares are…

£76 a week for food for a family of 4 frugal?
My OH came home with the free paper (Metr*) tonight. In it were the results of an "alternative census" that's been carried out. Amongst the things discovered was that the average family spend £76.02 on it's weekly food shop and a further £12 a week on alcohol. The CEO of the company that did the survey is quoted as saying…

Wild plum things ?
I have just discovered several trees on the edge of a quiet country road, on a bit of ground which probably belongs to the council since it has no fields nearby, just a little wood. The trees are burdened with little fruits, starting green, then going yellow and eventually red. I tried one and it was pleasant - if unripe -…

Chinese coating for chicken
Anyone have any idea what are the ingredients of that pink coloured "Chinese" coating that supermarkets use on both fresh chicken and legs, thighs etc that they sell ready cooked and hot? It's not a breading, seems to be some kind of spice. I tried it with paprika and it doesn't taste remotely like it. Thanks Bundly

Losing weight on a Low Fibre Diet.
Am after some meal ideas. I need to lose weight, but can only have a small amount of fibre a day. So that's limited fruit and veg. I'm not a big eater, but tend to snack. I've been eating rice cakes for breakfast as there is not much out there with low fibre but need ideas for other meals. Of course it also needs to be OS.…

Hello folks, can anyone here tell me how to deal with a sack of peas which have come straight out of the fields off the back of the big pea viners. One of the disks in the lower part of my back is knackered to say the least. It causes me allot of pain and sometimes this extends down my right leg.…
