Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday, 9th July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning SM & all who cross/follow
Kettles on, I need to make a cuppa & then start breakfast, hubby is working at the school today, whilst he's there I have some things to do in the garden, a bit of housework & some sewing. The sun is shining at the moment so I need to get the washing out & on the line as we are expecting showers later, I also have a spare pint of milk so I'll make a rice pudding, I'll make it in the Remoska, unless I can think of anything else to make to fill the oven up.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning, everyone! It has been a fine, then miserable day here. So far I have had a long sleep in, done a big washup, and now off to the shops to see if some things I ordered have arrived before they close at 6pm. The plan for this evening is a couple of loaves of bread (one for the freezer) plus an experimental Cottage pie (50% corned beef mince) and maybe some salad for the freezer.0

Good morning everyone.
A beautiful, bright morning here so must get the washing out. Will have to watch out for rain though as showers are forecast.
JackieG - what lovely news for you. Best wishes to your sister and her OH and also for your l-cing x
Twinklestar - lots of hugs for you and your family x
Bramble - prayers for your news today x
Rosyred - any chance of posting a photo here? Would love to see your dress. I really must start sewing again.
My fish pie went down really well yesterday. DD1 had seconds and there was still enough left to freeze a meal for 2 portion:)
Dinner today will be bacon & cabbage with hg spuds for 8 of us. It is another meal that goes down well with everyone and the boys love Grandad's hg potatoes.
Need to take a bowl down to collect any raspberries and loganberries. Lots of damsons and plums on their way but not ripe yet.
Happy Saturday folks with hugs for those in need or want.
Cheers, Silver xOutside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Morning everyone - dull but warm here but the sun may come out later.
Need to go water a garden, pick up some shopping (got a list of 4 things) and then do some work related tasks. Later I will make some soup for the freezer and probably a large pot of minced beef for splitting into chilli and bolognaise sauces. Since doing LC I can't use the chilli kidney beans so need to add loads of chilli flakes instead.
I got the DVD set of Sherlock the other day as I missed the whole series and heard it was fantastic, so perhaps today I will watch a couple of episodes whilst sitting in my new chair and knitting. :rotfl: The chair is by the living room window for now.
Got some clothes to return to M&S - I did a sort of 'sweep' of the ladies section the other day (again) and now need to return a load of stuff. I really like the summer dresses that are the fashion right now, all 50s and 'prom-like' but need to remember that I too am all 50s but not so 'prom-like' anymore!I hate the new T-shirt/tops fashions with ragged hems and styling which makes everyone look pregnant or a fat person trying to hide the bulges - which is exactly what I am. And it's so difficult to find T-shirts which actually come lower down the body than the waist. All my old ones cover my waist and rest on my hips and manage to cover the fat... new ones just draw the eye to it.
Last night we sat and watched the recording of a documentary about the Clydebank Blitz shown a few weeks ago. Broke my heart when I realised that Clydebank had suffered a bombing which was far worse than Coventry but the government of the time censored the information and it was never reported during war time. Am determined to drive through Clydebank when I'm next in Glasgow and not just go to the huge retail park!
Hey ho! Must get showered, dressed and breakfasted and then do my morning chores in swift fashion.
I hope everyone is doing well.0 -
Morning all,
We had storms here yesterday evening, thunder, lightning, heavy rain and hail for about 3 hours. At one point the rain water was gushing down the side of the house like a waterfall, I had to lean out of an upstairs window with a long pole and unblock the guttering!
Today is much quieter thankfully as I am going to a wedding this afternoon and it would be a pity if it was spoilt by rain. DD1 has been asked to make some cakes for it, she is a brilliant baker, and DD1 and DD2 are coming to the wedding with me.
This morning I am off to the supermarket to refill the cupboards for the week.
Hugs to JackieG, Lou, Bramble, Twinklestar and anyone else that I have missed.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning everyone :hello:
I've not been around for a while - can't even begin to tell you the goings on here but life has been pretty testing of late and the storms not over yet. That saying "it never rains but it pours" has been very apt for the last 18 months.
Anyway, onwards and upwards!! OS wise, this morning have put washing out and emptied dw. Breakfasts are done and I've come back to bed with a cuppa to go through accounts. DD's are practising a dance they're doing to Glee songs and then when we've all finished will try and rope them in to helping in garden (hedges and mowing the meadow) if weather hasn't turned. If it has turned then we'll start on the cooking - have got some veggies to use up
All in all, a lovely chilled out day planned with good food and good company.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and sending big (((HUGS))) to all those who want/need them xJUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0 -
Only one up in my house so far, which is very unusual! Kids have settled into their holidays quickly. However I have had time to have a peaceful breakfast and quick look in here before I get going.
Plans for today are to make a batch of soup, butternut squash & sweet potato, then make a start on clearing out the wardrobes.
OH and I have the funeral of an ex-colleague of ours at 1100. Poor man dropped dead at work at only 54 years of age. Makes you think about making the most of what you have and enjoying life as much as possible.
After that I plan to take kids for a cycle or long walk then iron all the washing I got dried on the line yesterday.
Have a good day everyone:rotfl:0 -
¡Hola!
Another bright day dawns here 33C up on the solarium at ten past nine! Better make the most of it as we set off back on Thursday morning.
:hello: Newbies Welcome - can I make a request to you all, could you at least put your county in the Location on your profile, or if you are not happy with that the general part of the UK you are in, when I am out here (Spain) it helps me keep up to date with what weather is where, and be grateful I am here.;)
Went out to an Italian last night, but I had fish not pasta/pizza. Something DH had upset his stomach (he makes too much acid - I have to be careful what and how I cook everything), we had the little sachets of Gaviston, which do seem to be only half a dose, but we had bought a Spanish similar-ish type of medicine, and asked had he tried that, he had looked at 3am this morning, so I toddled out of bed and there it was with his things in the cupboard. Handed it to him and within minutes he was snoring - took me a while to drop back off as it was so hot.
OS wise, all the pillows, pillow protectors, mattress protectors, and bedding all done, even did the ironing yesterday tea-time stood on the terrace with the breeze, still had to dive in the pool to cool down afterwards. Keeping fridge down to a minimum now, so we can eat up before we go, or only have things I can pop in a coolbag to bring back. Out Sunday/Monday/Tuesday nights now so won't need a lot.;):D:o
DS & GF is now just waiting for a positive mortgage offer they managed to send 3 wage slips of his GF, but they were 3 of the last 4, and the latest one was not sent, so he had to scan and send that yesterday, so let us hope he gets the right answer on Monday. Once that is approved subject to survey, and the survey done, we then need a better survey, as the flat is built in the roof of a Victorian house.
Positive vibes, prayers, good wishes, spoons, etc., to all as there seems to be a lot of illness about at the moment, particularly with neighbours/friends out here, on here and home.
Great news JG
