Freezing stuff in the snow?
Ok, basically I am thinking if I can freeze stuff in the garden (in a box/bag first) I have some extra bread I might use first (bought for someone then they had too much) Anyone tried this/any tips. I think there is about 9+ inches of settled snow in the back garden. We're forecast for more over the weekend/beginning of…

What can you put in the freezer?
What is good and not so good to be kept in the freezer? What can/should be cooked from frozen and what should be thawed? I know that peppers don't freeze well IMO - it seems that the freezing process breaks down their texture and I'm not keen on it. What veg is good to freeze from fresh or what are the best frozen veg to…

I am beginning to get a little frustrated with French etiquette now  We have been 'invited for dessert' to my H's work colleagues house but it means we (I) have to provide the dessert!!!??? That's a nice invite! Anyway it's normal to take patisserie which is served with champagne, provided by the host (thank…

Making my first loaf of bread - help needed
I've decided to try making a loaf of bread (by hand) and I'm not sure if it's working. I'm using a 'barleycorn' flour (mixture of wheat flour, barley flour and malt flour) and have followed the recipe on there, but I've been having problems with the kneading. I kneaded it for a good 10 minutes but it didn't become soft and…

What is healthier / better for you? 5 A Day
I have a juicer and regularly make my own juices. Example today: 1 Apple, 1 Orange, 1 Lemon, 1 Carrot and 1 Kiwi = 5 portions juiced but only count to 1 of my 5 a day. Yet if i'd just ate those fruits/veg I'd get 5 portions there. My juicing book suggests juicing fruits and veg as they are healthier and better for you -…

Soft, Lighter Bread
Hi all, I had a breadmaker for Christmas (which I love already) & although the bread it makes is absolutely lovely, it is quite dense & heavy & whilst this is nice with soups, it's too much for me for sandwiches. Now I know that I'll never get it as light as shop bought bread as it won't have the additives (yippee!), but…

no muffin cases left
Has anyone got a sure fire way to make sure they don't stick? It is fairly new tin and was sold as not stick but up to now I have only used it with cases. I don't want to ruin the tin or waste a load of supplies making them.

Dishwasher salt
Just discovered I have an unopened 3kg bag of Mr T's dishwasher salt in the cupboard. We haven't used the dishwasher since we moved in since I don't think we have enough stuff to fill it to warrant the electricity use. Do you think I could use this salt on icy paths? B
