Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 9th January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning!
I feel quite important! but I hope I've started it right as today is my first time
I'm a virgin!! (been a while since I could say that :rotfl:)
Anyway.... I have a busy today MS-ing today so nothing much OS going on here except the WM has been on already and I'll put it on to dry before we go out. Was hoping DS1 might come out on some jobs with me today but I think he's fell out with me as I told him at 11pm last night that it was time he parked the car up instead of doing needless journeys and risking an accident!
Need to do my 'no kitchen' meal plan for next week...should be interesting and then tomorrow we clearing out the kitchen ready for the contractors...not sure where everythings going to go but I'm sure we'll manage. Its only for a week after all!
Have a good day need to get on!

Morning Jc2703 and all to follow
Loads more snow here overnight  am running out of food so will definately have to go shopping today - OH will be up at lunchtime so will go then.
Roads are really bad today so hopefully loads of people will stay at home - some people must have lots of food as our local shop sold out of basics yesterday about half hour after having a delivery
Anyway enough moaning about the snow - normal stuff today - washing, ironing etc etc. Am making a couple of lasagnes, 1 for the freezer and 1 for tonight - small portion for OH with lots of salad (if I manage to get some)
Didnt start the scrapbooking but that is definately on the agenda today - am using it as bribery to get DD to tidy her bedroom. Had a look at that site Gemma - its definately given me lots of ideas.
Other than that think will be board games in front of the fire - luckily we have a large stock of logs this year as we are getting though them fast.
Off now for a little wander around the boards - have a good day & keep safe and warm.x0 -
Good Morning jc2703, Essex-girl - and all to follow later.
Woke up at 5am so came down to put DW and WM on. Both finished now - so may head back up to bed for an hour or so! Not too much OS lately - DS has been staying and somehow I never manage much when we have anyone staying. Choir dinner this evening so will have to hope DH will ferry me and my puddings down later. I've not driven this week as outside is a skating rink. Course reumes next week - and I have an essay to write. Help! I think I resolved not to leave things to the last minute....
I hope you all have a good day. Keep warm and cheerful.Resolution:

Morning jc2703 and all who follow
Well I had a lie in til half 6 this morning :j
Today I am going to the first meeting of a book club I have helped set up via Gumtree. It's in my local library. There are only 4 of us so far but hopefully it will grow. The only thing is I haven't read the book! :rotfl: The other 3 decided on it whilst I was on holidays and it wasn't on sale in NZ! Ah well nevermind, I know one of the other girls has only read 4 chapters so I'm not the only one. Never been to a book club before so should be fun. Plus I can finally get some new books from the library
After that I am meeting 2 friends for lunch and spot of shopping, not seen my friends for 4 weeks so looking forward to it
Not much OS wise planned, still need to hoover as I didn't do it yesterday. I may treat myself to a takeaway tonight but then again I may cook, I'll see what mood I'm in later!
Have a good day all

Morning everyone.
-4 this morning, but the house is warm and the coffee brewed... My little off the cuff comment sparked a little debate yesterday... Nothing meant by it, but we are changing as a society and it's not necessarily for the better. Community spirit stories make the news these day because there is so little of it. Anyway not the time or place, but I am surprised that no pavements in our town were gritted this time. Must be money I guess..
Off to penzance today, roads should be Ok and it should be a degree or 2 warmer down that way.
have a good dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Hi folks
Absolutely freezing here. Glad the heating is on, coffee in hand. Made a fantastic (even though I say so myself) Haggis and cheese bake with enough left to freeze a portion. Today will be hopefully a sledging day as the boys have never done it before so am hoping there is enough snow!
Slice sausage and egg rolls for lunch with stuffed mushrooms and grilled chicken I think for dinner.
Saw a "Crock Pot" slow cooker in tesco half price yesterday. Does anyone know if they are good?
Well of to look for some inspiration for my meal planning. Am adament I am going to cut down waste and my budget!
Hugs to all that need them and stay safe xAlthough I get lonely  as a single mother there are always two smiling angels ready to give me the biggest hug in the world. Love you babies :grouphug:

Morning all
Have had quite a good covering of snow overnight here and we'd forgotten to put the bins out so woke up to the noise of the bins being emptied so had to pull some clothes on quick and run down, fortunately they hadn't got to us so bins will be duly emptied. I then realised just how much more snow had fallen as it's all inside my open back shoes I went out in, so now have cold wet feet!
Will need to pack our overnight bag later, everything is ready to pack it all just needs to go in the bag. Had a very quiet evening last night, DS1 and DS2 were despatched to MIL and FIL, so when OH came in from work he had a bath and then we had dinner and shared a bottle of wine. The boys are not noisy but it does seem strange without them! When they are arguing 5 minutes after we've collected them tomorrow I may regret that statement!
Will be taking the camera to the hotel as it's quite picturesque and I may be able to get some good snowy photos. Won't be much OSing going on here this weekend, but I got an internet deal which I booked 10 weeks in advance then checked the prices last Sunday night and they had gone down so rang the hotel and they advised to cancel the booking on line (had a no charge for cancellation up to 4pm on day of arrival deal) and just re-book so that's what I've done and also got a Honeymoon suite instead of a double room for £10 less! (Still retained the same terms and conditions and cancellation up to 4pm on day of arrival). Result or what! I would never have dreamed of doing anything like keep checking the prices and then querying it if they change, I thought booking on the internet that far in advance I would have got the best price - you learn something new every day! So many thanks MSE.
I'm going to pop off now as a shower, coffee and breakfast awaits before I pack and we head off later. Have a good weekend everyone.
Take care those in the snow. Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning everyone, just a quick one to say hi before I head off to work today. It was crazy busy yesterday, and I spent most of the day in another dept helping them out as they were switched over to our job for the day for support. I really enjoyed myself, and got some really good feedback passed to my manager about how I did, so pretyy chuffed with that! I expect we're in for more of the same today, especially as we had more snow here last night.
I have been a busy girl this morning. WM and TD on, bathroom floor washed and some laundry put away. We spent most of the night up with DS1 who seems to have caught the Winter Vomiting Virus!!! Poor boy, I had to laught though, he got up about twenty minutes ago, and I asked if he was coming downstairs. "Can I get something to eat?" Err- no! You've just spent the whole night vomiting. Cue sour face, "Well then I'm going back to bed!" and off he went in a huff!:rotfl:
Hugs to everyone else under the weather, Diva, Sunnygirl and anyone else who needs them for their loved ones.
Have a great day!!

Morning peeps
ooh i feel quite a bit better this morning, i only woke twice in the night and after some more pain killers i got back off to sleep again so i`ve had a good 6 hours :j i`ve been sleeping on the sofa the last few nights so that i don`t disturb DH as he is up early for w*rk but tonight i think i shall try for bed. It will be the best night actually as DH is off tomorrow whereas if i sleep ok and don`t have much pain i shall go back to w*rk myself. Not sure how the cold will affect my poor tabs but keeping them warm has definitely made a difference.
More snow overnight so everywhere is tidy looking again, only a couple or three inches by the looks of things but i`ll get to see better later when i feed the birdies and take the houndies out for their walk.
Todays plans are just to have a bit of a tidy around, not much really, i shall empty my big bag of reciepts out to check against all the bank statements and catch up with the grocery challenge.
I have some chicken that is past its sell by date so i shall find something to do with that and put some ribs in the slowcooker for another day.
Teresita - If the crock pot thingy is the same as a slow cooker then i would say buy it! I use my slow cookers an awful lot atm and they are fantastic.
NMLC - Have a great holiday!
Taplady - Glad to hear that Janet is on the mend
Diva - ((((HUGS))))
JC2703 - Good luck with your kitchen
Have a super Saturday everyone, keep safe & warm.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -

Yeah its a slow cooker but the pot lifts out so think you can keep it in the fridge ready and not sure if it can be used to start stuff off on the hob.Although I get lonely  as a single mother there are always two smiling angels ready to give me the biggest hug in the world. No more snow here but still very icy.
Still very deaf, still barking like a dog when I cough, still crocheting up a storm as I'm not back at work til Monday at the earliest.
Hugs to Diva, PP, Jayward, Cranky & anyone else in need.
Keep warm & safe.
Hugs Hester
