Pipkin, OH is half German and does sometimes insists on Bratwurst but I won't eat them unless I'm sure they don't contain veal and usually demand he uses proper sausages. :o

Hope the headache goes soon you're both in stressful jobs which prob doesn't help..:A

I'm supposed to be mealplanning but not getting very far.
Trying to put together a few ideas that can just be zapped in the micro or done on the stove top if the power goes.(We average a powercut a month)I have a small generator which powers a microwave/tv etc.
Another thing I have done today is caught up with all the washing so IF we had a powercut we'd be ok for a few days.

    Afternoon all

Well my book club was quite good. We chatted for an hour about the book (which none of us had actually finished!). We have chosen to read The Bell Jar by Slyvia Plath for next month. I also got 3 other books out to read.

After book club I met my friends for lunch at La Tasca - used the 50% off voucher :) and then came home.

That's one of my fave books of all time.I read it when I was about 14, and could totally relate to it, re her feelings of alienation:o

    Good evening all

Well been shopping today got basics as didn't need much. We are forecast snow again tomorrow so don't need to go out now if it does come. Called at wool shop to check if my lessons were still on for Tuesday and so far they are but they will ring me if they have to cancel due to weather. Really looking forward to learning how to knit properly - bit fed up of scarves now:rotfl: They are doing crochet lessons too but I have a very basic knowledge of crochet already so will concentrate on one lot of lessons at a time. I have just made a premie baby hat from a very basic pattern found on here - sorry can't do links but was on the "crochet anyone" thread and was a link on post #281 and was the easiest thing ever - if I can do it in an hour then anyone can. Going to try the bootees next!

    Hope Pink gets home safely

Nice to see you back Laura - the weather will help fight your shopping adiction!!!

I'm late here today. Not even because I have been busy, cos I really haven't. I've spent most of the day deciding what to do for lunch tomorrow. MIL is invited before dd goes back to Uni.

DS took charge this evening. He made the quesadillas from the economy gastronomy book, did most of the prep and I helped with the cooking. I made some guacamole and some tomato salsa to have with some tortilla chips left from CHristmas. Gradually increasing ds's cooking skills. He doesn't like cooking on his own really, but never minds helping out. I'm determined he'll have a little repertoire of meals when he goes off to Uni.

Have been so lazy today, it was cold again this morning. Just laid in bed with a cuppa and listening to the radio. Then sat downstairs and talked. Lunchtime before we knew where we were. Kids wanted to play a game of Trivial Pursuit. I need a more up to date one I think.

DD gone to visit friends. DH gone to the pub with mate. I'm off to bed shortly I think!

  • Well I don't feel like I've acheived very much today - its just too darned cold :p I have knitted a couple more squares for my HM christmas blanket and cleared out the cereal cupboard. I'm going to use the out of date stuff to make bird food tomorrow.

More snow is forecast tonight so I hope you all stay safe and keep warm xxx  Imagine thats nice hot chocolate rather than beer! :rotfl:

  • When my DD got married SIL's friends had a bet on at what point he would start crying, most of the thought it would be as DD walked down the aisle towards him. DD said he wouldn't cry til he started making his speech, to make sure she won my DD walked down the aisle to Sprach Zarathustra, the music at the start of Space Odessy. SIL burst out laughing & didn't cry til he started his speech.

Do they still make updated questions? I've looked around for them but have only seen variations of the original game which don't appeal at all.

  • I think you are all so amazing! I have read through so many threads on here and the amount of people that come forward with advice blows me away!! Thank you for that!!! YOU help so many and dont even know it! The lurkers, like me for ages, to shy to post......you help them all.

I dont cook.....until yesterday, in my house everything came out of a box with instructions... or a jar.

    BUT

Yesterday I made from scratch Macaroni cheese and apple crumble! woot!

Tonight we used up a Iceland pie to get rid of the "fake food" hubby calls it as we embrace our new lifestyle...but I did make a peach cobbler I saw on here...sooo easy! And I boiled some caster sugar with water to make a caramel to go over it.. was yum!

Tomorrow ( Sunday) I am attempting Shepard's pie with NO pre brought mix, jar or bottle! so any input very gratefully received! Bearing in mind... I struggle at cooking LOL!

    Anyway....

    Just Thank you x
