Morning all! It’s chilly here, I’ve got my slipper-socks on. I’m so glad that we don’t have to worry about the heating being on, because we’re in a 1930’s block of flats, there’s a huge boiler that supplies hot water and heating to all the flats in the block, it’s paid for in the service charge which our LL pays so currently we have free heating and hot water. It makes a huge difference to last year when all we had were electric convection heaters fixed to the wall which cost so much to run we never turned them on and it was freezing cold all through the flat. Mind you, the girl I spoke to when we moved in and were sorting out all the bills was very confused and kept telling me that we still had to pay for the gas even though I kept explaining very patiently what the situation was. She eventually understood…
Jc2703: I’d be interested to see your ‘no kitchen’ meals, do you still have access to a microwave and slow-cooker?
Essex-girl: managed to get to Sainsbo yesterday and there was loads of food available, the only thing they were short on was eggs, I had to check very carefully to find a full box of unbroken eggs, ended up having to get 2 boxes of 6 from different ‘brands’ as I only buy free-range (I know, I’m lucky to have the money)
Beemuzed: every time I go back to studying, for my GCSEs, A-Levels, Uni and then the 6-month uni course I had to do as part of my new(ish) job, I always said that I wouldn’t leave things until the last minute… Did it ever happen? No! Also I found out how much more difficult it was to be running a house, working full-time and being expected to do a year’s worth of uni course in 6 months. So I feel your pain!
Flutterbyuk25, SunnyGirl, nic1lou2, tired mum, candygirl, LINKYPIE2009, sallypurple, kazzaw: I hope you enjoy your day!
Teresita: Hope the boys enjoy sledging, and haggis and cheese? Sounds
interesting!
Nmlc: that’s really good work re the price!
Jackieglasgow: sorry to hear about the little one, hope you manage to get some rest and work’s not too bad
Sunnyday: glad you’re feeling better and I hope it keeps up
Hardup Hester: hope you start returning to normal soon
NoahsPennilessMummy: hope the little one perks up soon!
Csarina: have you tried banana or stewed fruit on your porridge?
Redruby: hope you manage to get everything done that you need to! Also I agree re JackieO
Stressedoutmumof1: I’m waiting for my magazine to be delivered, don’t think I’ll get it until next week now thoughAlso, what’s ‘ranchero pie’?
Taplady: hope everything is more cheery with you and your loved ones (as much as can be)
Bargainbird: if anyone wanted a definition of ‘irony’ you’ve got a great one right thereAlso re DD, what about jam tarts? Just sweet pastry and jam!
LegalBlonde: hope you start to cheer up, I think everyone gets the January blues to some extent, especially if you associate it with past experiences and events
D&DD: how about some biscuits? Not really sure otherwise? Pate?
Bitsy Beans: enjoy your shoes! And hope your headache clears up by tonight, there’s nothing worse than being surrounded by happy sociable people when you’re feeling unwell
I’ve decided that I’m not going anywhere this weekend after the slip I had yesterday, it’s fine once onto the main roads and footpaths, it’s just getting out of my roads. I’ve looked on the BBC weather and it’s supposed to get up to +1 Sunday, Monday and Tuesday during the day so I’m crossing my fingers that it manages to thaw through the 3 inches of solid ice… Doubt it though!
Hugs and positive thoughts to all
Take care,
Caroline xx

Happy B'day Mummysaver.
I find the deafness very frustrating too Sunnyday, I've had limited hearing in my right ear for many years & have always relied on lipreading to a certain extent (friends find it amusing that I put my glasses on to hear better) but hubby is impossible to read as he talks without moving his lips at all.
I've just had a quick check in the freezer & we have 31 'meals' in there. Hopefully the snow will be gone before I get to the end of them.
Hugs Hester

afternoon all
have looked out and it appears we have had another light dusting of the white stuff. DH has gone to work for a few hours as they are really busy at the mo he works in the office for a company how install heating systems in houses and the fitters have been working flat out in this weather fixing peoples boilers and so on but they are getting loads of critism(sp) as people dont understand they cant give them a precise time like 11am as they dont know how long each job will take so they give a window and do their best but it's really fustrating for them to go to a call out and there be no one in esp when thepeople have been demanding someone go as soon as possible and then phone the radio station to complain no one has been it does make me more patient about waiting in for people to arrive though
made a big pot of veggie soup yesterday so dispatched half to the in laws and am just waiting for DH to ome home to hea a couple of bowls for us am going to add some rice and blend half to see what that tastes like
think i might put a rice pudding in the slow cooker for later
am using up some fridge stuff for tea so its bacon suasage egg potato bread and soda bread
stay warm everyone
stay safe all of you who are venturing out
feel better soon all who are under the weather esp the little one
Had to come back as I have just opened my post to find a £15 voucher for pizza hut - we had been out for an afternoon with some friends and decided to share a take away pizza the have a combo platter starter where you can choose 4 starters of the menu and we also ordered a large pizza and my friends hubby wanted banoffee. my hubby collected the order when we opened the boxes there was no dessert and there was not enough combo for 4 there was everything but we had 1 mushroom 3 goujons 2 cheese melts and 4 wings - we had ordered the combo a few times previously and gotten 3 mushrooms, 3 cheeses, 6 goujons and 8 wings we tried ringing but there was no answer on the phine and the place where the pizza hut was bedlam as it was a saturday night and would have taken 10 mins to go back try to find a parking space get into the hut and take to someone then fight way out of car park and 10 mins back so we dicided to split what we had and i contacted them the next day - werent really satisfied with the young man's sorry dude it was a busy night response so we contacted head office and explained situation to them we also them for confirmation of what we should get quantity wise when ordering the favorites combo starter so we know what to expect. I had forgotton about it as it was all pre chrostmas but today a letter arrived along with a voucher for £150 -
Thanks so much everyone for the hugs and happy birthday mummysaver please forgive me I am new to this!
I think I was feeling a bit sorry for myself earlier so thank you all so much for your support!! Starting to cheer up a bit, I think having no cash I was just looking very inward and thinking I literally can't do anything until next Friday but I can make the effort to see family etc and just tell them I am skint. And thanks to this site I am starting to work wonders with food!!
Going to try to make effort to do stuff round the house today rather than stare at TV as OH watches football or use this site all day long - everything in moderationThink I will put a clear of my clothes and put some clothes on ebay - in particular a Zara jacket - as if I do 7 days I will have been paid by the time I need to post them.
Thanks for all the good wishes and lovely to hear about all your days as always. Hugs to anyone that needs them. This too shall pass. (this has really helped me this week for some unknown reason!) xDebt Free Wannabe by 1 January 2016

Yet another lazy day here.I braved the garden briefly to de-ice the bird feeders and clean out and feed the hens. They really love porridge.
We're about to have lunch (cheese on toast courtesy of OH) then we're off for a walk along the shore. I'll pack some hot chocolate and marshmallows.
Last night's chicken carcass is brewing for stock and we'll have soup and hot dogs for tea tonight.
Have good days everyone.

Also, what’s ‘ranchero pie’?
Ranchero Pie - is 1 pack of pork mince, dry fried, add a good squirt of ketchup, and chilli powder to taste and a tin of beans, put in a oven proof dish, top with mashed potato with a large handful of sweetcorn mixed though, grate some cheese on top and pop into the oven until the cheese has browned. DD loves itSquares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -

Happy Birthday Mummysaver!
OH took me to Waitrose this morning to do my weekly shop. I usually do it on Mondays but didn't want to drive on the ice and my car is getting a bit unreliable.
So I have stocked up a bit, not too much just an extra bag of flour on top of what I usually buy, a back up box of washing powder, extra cheese and coffee and a sack of spuds from the farmshop.
I bought grated cheddar today after realising that Waitrose own brand English mature cheddar was £1 a kilo more than the same cheese ready-grated. It pays to check as it is easy to assume it will be more expensive to buy the convenience option. The grated stuff has potato flour added -nothing nasty.
Lunch has been lentil and carrot soup with toast and pate.
Supper will be smoked mackerel and leek tart (I have one mackerel fillet that needs using up) followed by chocolate fudge pudding.
I've had a bad cold for the past few days which seems to be affecting my sinuses and is apparently making me snore! Of course OH never snores :rolleyes:
Haribo your seashore walk sounds lovely.0
