Washing quilts
How often do you wash quilts and pillows (not linen)? And how do you do it? I'm planning on changing to our winter quilt next week and thinking it should be washed before I do, but not sure how as we have a small machine (might be OK for summer quilt but not winter)?

Those small or little things...
..that make life easier and you think, why didn't someone tell me about this before. For me its non-stick Baco foil. Being the cheapo that I am I always bought the cheapest on offer, by chance I ran out and needed some and this was all the co-op had in stock that day. No more mangled parsnips and roast potatoes trying to…

Cheap alternative to condensed milk caramel?
I love making caramel slices, and banoffee pie by boiling a can of condensed milk, to make the caramel. But yesterday i went to get a can and it cost £1:75!!! Its cheaper to buy ready made slices if i have to pay that. Ive tried to make my own caramel before without the condensed milk and it just tasted like burnt sugar.…

Whats cheapest - cook from fresh or ready meals?
I'm looking to cut my shopping bill. at present its around £90 a week for 2 adults and 2 children. We all have "good" appetites and are often a bit indulgent when chocs, biscuits etc are concerned - but no matter how hard I try I just can't get the bill down :( I've always tried to cook the majority of my meals from fresh…

Lost my recipe for Carrot lentil and tomato soup
Hi all I wonder if you can help. Last autumn I used a recipe for a tomato, carrot and lentil soup, I think it might have been topped with cheese and had other ingredients in it. Now the cold weather has started I have gone to make it, but can't find where I saved it. Does anyone remember it, it was very yummy and had lots…

"Bullying" on the forum - part Two
Hi all. I've started this second topic as MSE Andrea has closed the original thread and won't reopen it despite my repeated requests. She wants to "draw a line under it". I strongly feel that there's more to say and also that it was closed at a very bad time, where people were unable to reply to comments made toward or…

Toffee Vodka - sterile bottles?
I am going to make chilli vodka and toffee vodka. I have some rather posh bottles to put it in. How sterile do they have to be? I have washed them in soapy water, do I need to boil them as well? They have swing tops which are a combination of plastic and metal so I am reluctant to try either microwave or oven method. All…

I'd like to learn to knit, crochet and make simple clothes.
I have never been artistic in the craft department but would love to learn to knit and crochet. I can cast on at knitting and that is it. I have no idea how to crochet and do not own a sewing machine. Now that I am on long term sick, I would like to start making things and would appreciate it if you could point me in the…

Waste of sandwiches
I'm having a big Halloween party for my son end of this month. It's getting a bit stressful for me so my MIL has stepped in to help and give me a hand. They have now decided to have sandwiches cut out in Halloween shapes using cutters we got. My only problem with that is the waste of food. It will probably look really good…

You've all changed my life :)
I've just been thinking how different my life was just a month or so ago. Ready meals every night through the roof shopping bills and mounds of debt increasing and becoming unmanagable. I'm currently sitting in my living room feeding my baby boy his home made pasta. We've got two weetabix cakes baking in the oven one with…
