Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 15th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,

Cranky - Still thinking of you and George and sending love - Your posts yesterday just brought tears to my eyes and whether you know it or not, you are so inspiring to lots of us and a brave, wonderful mum. I think the kitten idea is perfect; a lovely last gift from his father.
N9eav - So sorry to hear your news.
Janiebaby - hope your back eases a bit so you can sleep.
Redruby - Personally I don't cook them first, I just slice them and freeze them. They come out with less texture but are great for cooking with. I do not see any reason why you couldn't cook them first but I am lazy!
Elfen - you are doing so well with all your home cooking despite the work load, well done!
Bitsy - hugs.gifOne day you will sleep all the way through the night, I promise.. giggle.gif
Haribo - I am glad you had a great day with the girls... hope at least one of you had the meatballs!! :p

TV-wise, like others on here I love 'Flashforward'. 'Stargate Universe' was interesting too. Plus 'TrueBlood' was weird but fascinating. Add in 'Strictly Come Dancing' and 'Chuck' and my winter TV viewing schedule is already busy!

My OH bought home a small packet of kippers marked down in Tescos so last night for dinner I layered sliced potatoes, sliced shallots and peppers from the garden, a few mushrooms and some of the cut up kippers. Then I made a thick-ish cheese sauce and poured a little on. Then I did another 2 layers in the same way and finally finished with a layer of potato slices and a little grated cheese. Put it in the oven covered up for 45 mins and then uncovered for about another 15. 180 degrees. Next time I might use less cheese sauce but it was very rich and very filling so will be having the rest tonight too.

Have to do my Tesco order today, the fridge looks decidedly empty. I did manage to make ginger twinks and a weetabix cake so my OH is happy but we need some real food too! Oh and I better get the BM on while I think of it..

With love, light and HShuggies.gif for everyone who would like one.

Hi MSD and all who follow.

Cranky - I didn't get a chance to come back on here yesterday so have only just caught up with the thread. I'm truly inspired by how you are coping during this sad sad time. I think the kitty idea is excellent and will be perfect for you and George.

Nothing much to report here because we've just been working on the house. The dreaded taking-down-of-the-ceiling has not taken place yet because other things have got in the way - as they do! This morning, I need to do a bit of food shopping then I hope to get some of my online work done - I shall have to tell DH to find something he doesn't need help with for a few hours!

Morning MSD, Mioliere & all to follow

Had another horrible work day yesterday so not much done round the house. Fingers crossed today will be better.

OH & I bit the bullet & put a complaint in to powers above about our manager & supervisor at work. The situation has been terrible but as a contractor there are no employment laws safeguarding our position. We wont hear anything for a week or so as he is on holiday now but there will be meetings and loads of trouble soon. I know we have done the right thing but how it ends up affecting us we dont know.

Anyway, today first thing we are taking DS to his senior school of choice for next year. They do tours on a normal school day. His sister already goes there so hopefully he will get in ok. Only takes an hour then he will be dropped back at school.

I have quite a lot of paperwork to get through, some ironing & housework so that needs to be out of the way before I can do something nice like baking.

Didnt have burgers last night so that is on the menu plan tonight.

N9eav - hope you & your family are doing ok today.

    Good morning.

Speaking of True Blood..I love that show! I downloaded the other episodes so now I'm all caught up and now have to wait for season 3. I also watch Sons of Anarchy, Bones and Greys Anatomy.
Do any of you read or have read the Twilight series of books? I have and love them. I can't wait for the 2nd film to come out (New Moon). Seems like it's taken forever for it come out heh (20 Nov. doesn't come quick enough hehe).

My poor kitty really hates his plastic collar but I hope he knows in some way it's for his own good. His wound is healing up nice so a few more days and the collar comes off :D

Oh and don't forget..Martin is on GMTV this morning :D

    Have a nice day ;)

    Hi Guys,
I echo every posters comments regarding my admiration for Jayne and George. The kitten is perfect. His/her antics and naughty moments will take your mind off the sadness for a moment. Animals are so theraputic. I really dont know where I would be without mine.

I had a funny day yesterday. No real OS apart from washing. i had to get a lot of papers together for my retirement claim etc. Very depresing.

Today I have to get organised. No help today:mad: I just wish it was more regular as I really need it. Im not going to get into a tizzy as I have been offered help this weekend from kids dad and my youngest DS "owes" me a favour as I have just bought him some new skates. Im going to a meeting regarding the effect of Food on Mood as part of my ongoing sessions so i need to have a sleep this pm or they will find me curled up in a corner snoring my head off!!! Tomorrow I start a new round of treatment so am actually looking forward to that as I get a lot of pain relief if it works!!

I hope everone has a good day,
    Love Mollyxx

    Morning everyone.
5.30am start this morning. Got into bed with DS to try and "convince" him to go back off to sleep but he's having none of it  Still we had a nice cuddle instead and at least the pair of them didn't wake in the night for once.
I really really really need to do some baking today. I was desperate for something savoury and snack-y yesterday and I'd got nothing. Likewise nothing sweet in the house except for a little chocolate and rather suprisingly I didn't want that
So am thinking of something cheesy although I don't have loads of cheese with which to cook......could be a bit of a problem :o
Tea is a makeshift - would normally have badminton tonight but am hopefully going swimming instead.
Going to make a big batch of leek and potato soup in SC kids permitting (you know what they are like ;))
DS has another assessment at the local specialist centre, got to see the speech therapist again and the paediatrician (sp?!).
so that's my day ahead - not to mention doing some cleaning!!!

Diva - not a big fish eater but your dinner sounded rather tasty :)
Essex-girl - good luck with your complaint. Hope it doesn't cause you too much trouble x
Jayne & George - You might think you are ordinary but coping with such a tragic situation and a young son does make you extraordinary. I think the kitten is a lovely idea xxxxxx

Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS Or not.

    Morning all,

Another depressing clean up the dust day. DH bought home a massive bag of onions from the market to cheer me up. Shame as they were on special yesterday at the supermarket and I bought a heap. Sods law. I'll have to see if they freeze well.

Made a tomato sausage thingy for tea tonight and it tastes yummy. New recipe. I'll probably do some baking tomorrow as the biscuit tin is empty. They keep disappearing. :D

Cranky Just echoing everyone's sentiments. I'm sure the kitten will help tremendously.
Nordic No I can't say I have read any of them.
EssexGirl Hope today is a bit brighter.

Hope you all have a lovely day. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

They started out for older teens but people of all ages read them. I'm 34 and I love them! I've actually seem some some funny shirts like "I'm a Twilight Mom" hehe. If i was a Mom I would surely have bought one heh.

Aussielas... here is more info about them http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilightseries.html

I don't know about the rest of you but I love reading..especially in the cooler months where you can just cuddle up under the blanket with a cuppa and a good book.

    Morning all,

Cranky - thinking of you and george - I think a kitten is a lovely idea too :)
N9eav - sorry for your loss ((hug)) for you and family
Essex-girl - well done for taking a stand, I hope it goes well for you

I appear to be running a cake making class on Sunday, as two of my friends want me to teach them some basic chocolate work. I don't know how I got roped into that, but I think it should be fun. I have to make a birthday cake for our research assistant for Monday, so I will use that as the basis of the tutorial.

I have the urge to make something truely hideous after browsing the cake wreaks site yesterday, so I might get the icing sprays out too :D Last week my former boss made the science and tech section of the Times and the photo was ermm.... proof that coloured lighting is no substitute for clothing. I am thinking that photo might the basis for a cake wreak :D I need to get some dowling, some rice crispies and some icing sugar. I have a lot of fondant already.

I went out for a drink with the lab last night and ended up staying out really late, so I'm a little tired this morning (and have the grace and poise of a very angry rhino). OH is back today around midday and tomorrow we are going to college for dinner with work. My industry partners are visisting tomorrow so I'm a little worried about that. Term has started so it's all go again up here. They all look so young.

Have a good day all, cel x
