Cooking split peas without soaking
I forgot to soak yellow split peas overnight and now I want to make a soup. Is it ok just to cook them until they're soft without soaking, and any idea how long this is likely to take? I don't have a pressure cooker so just on the hob :(

Best meat to get?
We are down to one teeny pingpong ball of frozen mince in the freezer, so I need to go to Costco this week for more meat. Wondering what meat you all find goes furthest but is also more flexible ? :D I am not mad on beef but we always seem to go for beef stew as I can't think of anything else. I am on a very limited budget…

soaking fruit for Xmas cake
Started to soak the fruit for our Xmas cake in brandy yesterday and was going to make it today, however I'm now thinking that with a day off on Wednesday, I'd rather make it then. Do you think if I stirred the fruit daily and kept it covered with cling film in the fridge, it would still be OK on Wednesday?

What to do with extra "soaked" dried fruit?
We've just put our Christmas cakes in the oven but hubby has soaked too much dried fruit (why would you measure it when you could just guess ). I don't really want to make another Christmas cake but I'm struggling for ideas as to what to do with it. I think it's about 1.5lb, perhaps a bit less.... Any suggestions?

Can you make porridge in an intellichef?
Hi, My slow cooker lid has broken, and it is not economical to replace, so I am thinking of "upgrading"... I have had a little bonus from work, so was thinking about treating myself either one of those porridge cooking, rice cooking, 4 in 1 slow cookers, or an intellichef. I am leaning towards an intellichef because of the…

I just wondered if I can keep it growing at home and have a continual supply, or am I just talking rubbish? I used to grow keiffer (cant spell…

I used to meal plan and manage to shop OS but lately, thanks to a lot of upheaval, I have lost my way and the meals I prepare are well, either pasta, pizza or fish fingers! I attempted a pineapple chicken dish this evening and grabbed worcestershire sauce instead of soy sauce so that ended up in the bin and we ate noodles…
