Cooking split peas without soaking

I forgot to soak yellow split peas overnight and now I want to make a soup. Is it ok just to cook them until they're soft without soaking, and any idea how long this is likely to take?

I don't have a pressure cooker so just on the hob :(

    Hiya...

Unsoaked peas take from 1 to 2 hours of simmering.

  • I make dahl with them all the time and it takes about an hour, unsoaked!
  • Thanks! Last time they took nearly 2 hours WITH soaking cos the peas were quite old lol, I was beginning to think they would never cook!

These ones are new so I will have a go :)
  • If I forget to soak overnight, I put the amount I want to use in a bowl and pour on boiling water. Leave for as long as possible, preferably 2-3 hours
