Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 18th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,
welcome2.gifnmlc - Always nice to have a new 'face' join us.
Jayne and George - still thinking of you both
Beemuzed - I open notepad and jot the odd thing down so when I hit reply I can remember what I wanted to say. I have a great memory for verbal conversations and information but when reading, if it is a lot of different info, I need to take notes.
Nordict - hope you had a better nights sleep tonight hon
Noahs - Oh poor Noah! Hope the little fellow feels better soon.
Bargainbird - That is terrible.. why have they adjourned it?
Stefb - I fell a little bit in love with Nigel Slater when he did 'A Taste of your Life'. He was always so good at bringing out the stories in peoples lives that were around food. Then I discovered his cook books...
Curly - You are doing fine, understanding why you want to spend is half the battle, and it's a natural reaction.

Ok, my song for this week is called 'Don't Forget to Breathe'. It's gorgeous. Click HERE
Well, thanks to waking up with no voice again and not feeling too bright I didn't do anything much yesterday. And the same today no doubt. I do have a cough but am fighting that by sipping water every time I get a tickle. Works more often than not. Still double dosing Vit C and my Echinacea.
My OS-iness today is to clear the dining table so I have space to create my birthday cards on. Plus we have a man from the Healthcare Trust visiting on Monday so the whole lounge needs a tidy up really. Still, we haven't had to polish the top of the TV or the mantlepiece for ages as my OHs birthday cards are still up there from the 27th of Sept..giggle.gif
Lunch will be corned beef sandwiches again and maybe something fishy for dinner depending on what we defrost - maybe a fish pie if we have time.
I enjoyed 'Strictly' last night but was very surprised that Craig wasn't in the dance off. I assumed Joe would be safe with all those women fancying him. Am glad he has gone though, he IS the worst dancer.
I hope everyone has a peaceful Sunday. With love, light and HShuggies.gif for everyone.

Good morning MSD - hope you find your voice soon and start feeling a lot better.

Jayne and George - thinking of you both.

    Welcome to the newbies here.

I've been MIA here for various reasons, mainly life getting in the way. The renovations here have come to a halt because my DH had to go to hospital the other day - he cut his finger about three weeks ago while he was working on the house; it was only a tiny cut which he obviously should have washed out and protected but, no, he carried on working and, on Friday it suddenly started looking like an abscess. The local pharmacist told him to go to A&E, so I took him in the evening and they dealt with it there and then. The result was a minor op under local with two stitches and a prescription for antibiotics. He has to go back on Tuesday but the doctor warned us that the infection looks 'sealed in' to the finger so, if the treatment hasn't worked, he may have to go back in for another op. Anyway, the hospital was brilliant. It's only a five minute drive from our house, no waiting, free parking, spotlessly clean, and lovely staff. The downside was collecting all the dressings DH needs from the pharmacy yesterday - with the antibiotics, it cost €83 euros! We should get around 70% of it back but it hurt paying for that upfront, I can tell you! They were going to send a nurse out every other day to change the dressings but DH told them I used to be a dental nurse, so they've given that job to me - not that it's anything to do with teeth! The dressings include lots of different swabs and bandages, a big bottle of iodine and some iodine gel - luckily, I watched everything the doctor did, so hopefully I'll get it right!

It was our first experience of A&E here and we are very impressed - especially because it was a Friday night. Having spent a Friday night in A&E in the UK with a teenaged child with a finger hanging off, and having to wait in line for hours and hours - and pay for parking - this was a doddle.

Anyway, all this means that the ceiling that DH wants to take down, still hasn't come down and has been put on hold until the finger is better. I wasn't looking forward to the mess but I'll still have to face it eventually!

MSD - I enjoyed Strictly but it seems very different this year as regards who will come out on top in the end. I think it's anyone's game at the moment. I just love the dresses, the music, and watching the professionals dance! I thought Craig would have been in the dance-off this week. I always get nervous watching him dance - he looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights!

Well, dinner today is the rest of the stew we had on Friday, which we bolted down before going to the hospital. I'll make some roast potatoes to go with it. I also need to make some plum crumble - we seem to live on that lately because I've still got loads of plums in the freezer.

Anyway, hope everyone has a great day.

    Morning everyone.

Feel lousy today. The cold that I've been fighting off for a couple of days has hit with a vengence :( Got up with DS as H was sick a couple of times last night, although not sure why. Anyway when he surfaces I think I'll go back to bed. Back is uncomfortable at the mo (must have slept in funny position) so it suits me to get up now, ease the pain in my back and then go back to bed. Am too popping the echinacea although this time it doesn't seem to have done the trick :(

Well my meeting with potential client yesterday went well. I got the job :T I shall be providing wrap around care (1 hr mornings and about 1 1/2 hrs in afternoon). Am really please as that will still leave the bulk of 4 days of my week free for me and the kids :D
Lunch/dinner today is chicken and leek pie (although probably without the pastry!) - I'd got some boneless chicken thighs out as they were taking up space and I'd not tried a creamy sauce in the SC before. Just had a taste and it's lovely. Good job as the way I feel at the moment haven't got the energy for much :o

MSD - I do at least have my voice. Have you tried Vicks vapour rub all over your throat. Normally helps with my sore throats and tickles a treat. Hope it's back tp fine form soon.
mioliere - OUCH! re H's finger. Tsk tsk men and their DIY and not looking after themselves properly. My H once sliced a VERY large cut down his thumb whilst using a stanley knife and my dad ground the ends of two fingers away doing something stupid with an electric planer  Hope it's better soon so you can get that dreaded ceiling over and done with.
Jayne & George - still thinking of you xx

Hugs to those that need them.
Hope you all have a chilled Sunday.

Good Morning All! No idea what the weather's doing yet - haven't pulled back the curtains to see yet.Up early with elderly dog needing to be let out and then couldn't get back to sleep, so got up and have pulled out the contents of one shelf in my larder...shan't talk about the half eaten pickles etc which have been shoved out (at least I now have plenty of jars ready for marmalade in January!!) but have a cleaned shelf neatly stacked for a while, with a long list of stuff written down and blutacked to the inside of the door. Only took half an hour..three more shelves to go!
Mioliere, that finger sounds very sore! Men!
Diva - a notebook - great idea, thanks! Hope your voice returns shortly.
Bitsy - well done on getting the job, thought you would when you said the child didn't want to leave! That's the really important feature of childcare, that the child is happy. Total tidyness is not the main thing! Hope you feel better soon yourself.
Well, have a good day everyone - I've just heard the alarm going off upstairs , so will take DH a cup of tea.

    Think twice before spending anything!
  • Morning all!
I was hoping for a lie in this morning but dd woke at 6 and came to join me at 6.30. She'll be shattered later as she was later than usual to bed last night and has a party to go to this afternoon.
My millionare's shortbread turned out really well and I made some buns which dd has 'decorated'. Also made some vegetable curry in the SC with stuff that needed using so I'll get that in the freezer shortly.
Think we are going to be pigs this morning-dd wants cheese on toast for breakfast and I'm thinking longingly about a bacon sandwich.
If it doesn't rain we are going to meet dd's dad later for a walk and then popping to waitrose for a few things that are better from there than Mr S.
Need to get at least dd's uniforms ironed later and fit in a bath for her between the walk and the party so looks like I'm going to be busy.
MSD I hope your voice comes back soon.
Bitsy- hope that echinacea gets working soon.Excellent that you got the mindee.
Mioliere- I echo the 'men' sigh.
    Better get on with breakfast.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Bitsy - hope you feel a lot better soon. Well done on getting that job, too. My DH has done the planer thing, too, but only took the top off one finger! Men think they're invincible, don't they?

    Morning All

Mioliere - ouch to OH's finger  hope it heals well and everyone else under the weather feels better asap.

Lovely crisp morning here, everyone else in the house is still asleep so enjoying some peace and quiet.

Plans today - just about to put brisket in the slow cooker for dinner tonight (steak last night was very nice especially at the price). Fry up for brunch & hope to take everyone for a nice walk in between. More ironing to be done (hopefully cleared) and really want to make some muffins & chocolate brownies.

Not much else to say so I'll get off now, have a lovely relaxing Sunday.x
    ((((hugs))) to whoever needs one.

    Morning all,

Winter has arrived !! Yesterday it was freezing here, we went up to my mums 8 miles away, and it was much warmer, must have been something blowing off the sea , anyway have woken up to a severe frost this morning, although its clear and bright.

Our bedding is in the wm, and I will get dd to strip and re make hers once she is up.

OH had gone to the car boot sale, and I am sitting here with a pot of tea, and some toast.

I got another xmas present yesterday, I got my Bil a bird table, which was made by a local man, who sells them from his garden, from reclaimed wood, its huge and in the shape of a church, with a nesting box on the top, I haven't a clue how I'm going to wrap it  but it looks nice :D

Dinner today will be a happy chook, roasties cauli cheese and cabbage, yesterday I got a camembert reduced to 30p so we had some in our omlettes last night and will use some in the cauli cheese.

We are still waiting to hear from the estate agents, as to weather the man who's house we want still wants to sell, it was never actually on the market as we got in so quick and made an offer :o, then the chain broke and he has been waiting for us, anyway the EA was making unsure noises so has phoned and left a message on the chaps machine, so its a tense wait here, if he has changed his mind its back to looking again, and houses just dont come up for sale often in that village. Fingers are firmly crossed here.

Kathy, ouch poor OH, hope it heals up soon xx

    NPM, how is Noah ?

Bitsy, well done on the new mindee, does that mean you will be taking and collecting her from school ?

Jayne and George, hugs to you both xx

I think we are going to tackle the loft today, emptying and getting rid of stuff, I love decluttering :D
