What cooking substitutes do you use?
I live in Poland and sometime find it difficult to find ingredients partly through my lack of linguistic skills and others just because it isn't available. Things such as Creme Fraiche - I know this may sound dim to some, but is this just normal sour cream without the price tag? or is it just a good substitute  I…

Roasting half a duck
I have a lovely free range half duck to cook for lunch. I usually slow roast a whole duck for 4 hours (like this) so all the scrummy fat comes out for roasties and the skin is crispy. Do you think I can do the same with the half duck or should I cut down roasting time?

vegan pancake fillings - any ideas?
I was just wondering if you clever folks had any ideas. I am having a selection of vegans, vegatarians and meat eaters around to lunch tomorrow. I am going to make pancakes (flour, soya milk and egg replacer) then serve with various toppings, both sweet and savoury. Sweet is fine - lemons, jam, sugar, golden syrup all…

Jam
Is there any possible way of 'spicing up' jam. I was going to make my own for Christmas, but it would cost me a fortune, which I just don't have. Could I buy Asda's ready made stuff at 24p a jar and add things to it to improve it? I was hoping to make a Christmassy type jam and I have just received 24 jam jars from…

Tea
Hi Have been looking in for a long time and decided to join up today. I have a tip on tea. I found a very nifty tea infuser, like a little metal spice ball with scissor handles as I wanted to stop using teabags - they don't always break down in the compost bin quickly. It costs £1.99 and gets a lot of use. And I found…
