Towels on line late afternoon.

I usually TD towels so they are fluffy, my SIL suggested that I line dried till almost dry and then TD. Prev when I have line dryed towels they have been very hard.
Anyway decided to give a go, put the towels out about 3.30ish one afternoon. We have an East facing garden so a shadow appears at start of garden around 4pm and by 6pm all garden is in shade, so normally I would not put washing on line at this time. Went to get them in later to finish off in TD and to my surprise they weren't hard at all and were dry so no need for TD. I can only think as the garden got cooler the moisture in the air naturally softened.

Hi Spendless, my towels always go like sandpaper on the line too .
I too sometimes put them in the t/drier to make them fluffy but that seems silly when it is a lovely sunny day outside and the rest of the washing is blowing on the line.

I sometimes wonder if I should buy more microfibre towels as they do not go stiff/ sandpaper on the line and dry much quicker, which could be a blessing in winter. The trouble is convincing the family.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.

I find that if it is windy they are always soft.
    I got one of these

so I can always line dry my towels then give them an air in the drier with a tumble drier sheet and they are always nice and soft.

I love 'a bit of rough' too, ;).

Unfortunately my dgk's don't - so I keep my BEST bath sheets very soft and scenty for their use. They think it's lovely to get wrapped in them when they stay over .

I don't mind line dried towels as long as they are nice thick towels to start with, but if i don't tumble dry them OH makes comments about 'sanding himself dry' because he has delicate skin, bless him :o

  • I use white vinegar as a softener and find that the towels are a lot softer dried on the line than when using an expensive brand softener.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
