mse way to reupholster a seat
Im hoping there are some old-style moneysaving tips to be had with upholstery. Im trying to restore a seat for a classic car and to have it done professionaly would probably cost to much. I've stripped it of the old vinyl covering and removed the stuffing. All the springs and frame look intact although there is a little…

Cool wash is a bit smelly
I have tried to be environmentally virtuous by doing washing at 30-40C. However, I have noticed a stale sweat smell when ironing my husband's 'cool-washed' clothes. Has anyone else experienced this? What can I do to get rid of this smell or do I need to go back to using the good old boil-wash? Any advice would be much…

Load of old Melons!
This may sound like a fib, but I realised that I have never before bought a melon until yesterday! Previously I have had it in those cut up fruit salads that cost the earth or at a friends or resteraunt. So now I have this melon. I am presuming it is ripe??? Or is it like an avacado that you should press to see if it is…

meal planning - where am I going wrong?
I can't seem to get our groceries down to less than about £35 a week - for two adults and one small child. I try to cook healthy meals so we get through a lot of fruit and veg - but I always choose seasonal/cheaper varieties. I buy one lot of meat (e.g. a chicken for a few meals, or minced beef/turkey) and one lot of fish…

An ideas before I throw the throw
I have a gold chenile throw, which I decided to wash. Big mistake. Now fluff just comes off it. When I held it against myself, my black top was covered in fluff within seconds. This never happened before. I used to always have it wrapped around me when watching tv. I have tried re-washing it in cold water. Hanging it out…

Orzotto with something other than mushrooms?
A while ago I had the most delicious pearl barley risotto with mushrooms. Apparently a pearl barley risotto is called orzotto. I rushed out and bought myself a packet of pearl barley, meaning to recreate it, but the only recipes I can find are for orzotto with mushrooms, and my husband hates mushrooms. Meanwhile, I'm…
