Help - sticky back plastic removal

Hi,

I'm tired, knackered and generally hacked off!

I put some self adhesive trunking on the skirting board to hide wires. We are now moving out of this rented flat, so on a cleanup mission.

But.... the damn glue wont come off without MAJOR elbow grease and there is 4m of the damn thing. I've been going for ~4 hours and I'm about 20% through.

Any ideas on what could help to remove this stubburn little oik?

    Hi abaxas,

I've removed stubborn glue remnants before with WD 40. It makes it much easier. We might have an older thread on removing glue....I'll have a look and if I find one I'll edit it into this post.

    Edit: Try these threads:

    brown sticky tape residue

    sticky plaster residue

    sticky label removal

    Hi Abaxas

Lakeland sells something called 'Sticky Stuff Remover'. My son used self-adhesive L plates on his moped and when he wanted to sell it we tried everything under the sun to get off the glue residue, which looked awful. I was sure the Sticky Stuff Remover would be yet another waste of money BUT it was the only thing that worked, and the whole job took about two minutes. I'm not a Lakeland employee BTW!!! Where do you live???? I would happily lend you mine!!!

would definitely recommend sticky stuff remover although not sure ours is Lakeland.
Don't forget to get the carpets professionally cleaned if your rental agreement says so or you will pay dearly for it. When we moved out we got charged for cleaning the whole flat even though the most it needed was a dust as we moved out 4 weeks before our tenancy ended and a carpet clean.

Sounds stupid, but try rubbing it with peanut butter on a j-cloth - it works on carpet tape residue!

    Thanks all!

Chemist is local so I've bought some surgical spirit, also had some vaseline in stock so tried that.

Leaving it to 'soak' for 10 mins then going to try!

If these dont work, it's time for a trip out of some WD40 and peanut butter (I'll assume smooth!)
