    Hi Tia,

I have black slate tiles in the bathroom (walls and floor) and I find them a pig to clean. If I do it regularly enough then I can clean them with a microfiber cloth (I picked mine up from Lidl and Tesco pretty cheaply) but you have to rub really hard  The other thing I've used is a product from HG - I think it was called Marble Bathroom Cleaner - it works but as I remember it was quite pricy. According to this website http://www.bakingsodabook.co.uk/Clean_marble_and_slate_with_baking_soda.shtml you can clean stains on slate with a paste of baking soda, water and lemon juice (mix to paste, scrun, risnse and then dry - it doesn't give amounts of each ingredient). I haven't tried this so can't vouch for it. If you do have stains you want to try it on I'd try on a small fairly inconspicuous area first.

I'd love to hear if anyone out there has a better way to clean slate, mine's been neglected recently and needs a good going over!!!

    Hi vwcampervan72

Someone I know used to be a stonemason and he recommends using engine oil. Yep I know it sounds gross but apparently it works - not tried it yet myself so would suggest trying it in an inconspicuous area first.
